Ask northwestern and oregon what they thought of the roids

The roids may have misfired.

But seriously, the furdies I know seem to think they'll continue to rule the Pac-12 indefinitely and eventually snag a natty under Shaw, and they may be right. They have what appears to be a permanent roidvantage in the trenches, and whenever they can add a top-notch skill player or two to that mix, they're an instant favorite.

What Stanford fans are these? I am a Stanford alum and know many other alums. Not one of us thinks we are destined to rule the Pac 12 or win a national title. Quite the opposite really. We are blessed to have seen this team the last six years, and none of us are quite sure how long we will last. We are just enjoying the ride for as long as we can.

Berkeley often has quite a few empty seats

You think there would be empty seats in Berkeley if Cal were ranked #7? (A larger stadium to boot.)

You think there would be empty seats in Levi's if Cal were playing tonight?

Not a fucking chance!

Bullshit. Cal NEVER fills Memorial. There aren't enough Cal fans to fill that minor league team's stadium.

I'm not sure if you're being ironic there, we filled it up for Sac State earlier last decade.

Last time Cal played at Levi's, Oregon fans easily outnumbered us.

Last time Cal played Ohio State, Ohio State had more fans. Game was in Berkeley

That's because our team sucked, which would not be the case if we were ranked #7 or playing in the Pac-12 title game.

A lot of it is the student body. A lot of international students these days (many from India and China) who never seem to get into it.

I always knew Cal had a higher international flavor than most campuses but how many more international students has Cal taken now as compared to say 10, 15, 20 years ago?

Well going into that game we had a winning record. Real issue is the Cal fan base isn't as large as many think and this is quite evident on gamedays. Tickets were $5 for ASU, which was our last home game and attendance was brutal. As a recent grad, I can tell you many of the current students don't follow the team much. Many attend the games freshmen year as tickets are free but that is it.

Not sure the percentage but you can definately see it if you are on campus. I still live in the area and and take a few group classes at RSF and the international population is significant. Football simply isn't that big on campus.

Actually I think Cal has a huge following in the East Bay, however the thing is...with price increases on tickets and the product in decline people are staying home. I also think Cal does a pretty terrible job promoting new fans. It use to be a big thing for high school kids to go to Cal games.

There is a following but its not huge. There is a huge following for the Niners, Giants, Warriors.

I don't know..I haven't lived in the Bay Area for 11 years now. But when I did, I knew a lot of Cal fans from the El Sobrante, Pinole, Richmond area..I'm not talking about Cal alums either..these were people who loved to follow big time college football in the bay area. Once you got past Vallejo I think the Cal interest dwindled by a significant margin, likely the travel distance was huge prohibition.

I remember being on campus during the early part of last decade, and people said the exact same thing even as Tedford began to awaken the program from its long hibernation. Attendance was about the same back then as it was for Oregon at Levi's and ASU last week.

Then came the 2004-07 salad years, during which home crowds were big. If someone gets us winning again at that level, the same thing will happen.

That made me LOL. If Cal were playing in that stadium for a playoff berth or Rose Bowl berth, it'd be packed. furd hates us because no matter how many "New Year's 6" berths they rack up, they'll never get that (even if we're not exactly the world's most passionate fanbase)

lol I can guarantee you furd fans have no hateration or jealousy about ANY aspect of Cal football

Apparently you missed the part where I said "ranked #7" and "in the conference championship."

Last time Cal was ranked 10 or better, Memorial ROCKED.

Edit: Oh, and if Cal were in the hunt for a top 4 ranking, hoping for playoff and possible NC, you think Levi's wouldn't be a sell out? I highly doubt it. And if it weren't, the stadium would be close enough to capacity. If that were the case tonight, I'd be in the stadium with my entire extended family and not posting here, I can guarantee you that.

Goddammmit. In addition to winning the conference, Furd's player sets the new all-time season all-purpose yardage record, besting the amazing Barry Sanders. FML.

Well McCaffrey had 13 games vs. Sanders' 11, but still an amazing accomplishment. Until someone proves Stanford is juicing, color me impressed. McCaffrey is a special player, and only a Sophomore - crazy. I have no problem giving credit where credit is due.

Some of you guys (Bearister?) might try a 12 step program to deal with Stanfurd envy. They kicked our asses (again) and then completely embarassed USC last night. Cal is so far gone from either of these programs its laughable. Pity new SC HC Helton - they spiral down in the Chicken Licken Bowl game, and then face Bama next year in their opener. Helton gets 5 years more and we complain about Sonny?? lol..

There's more out-of-state students in general than there was before due to reductions in state funding.

We use basketball, the few times we can, to make us forget Cal football futility. It hasn't worked for me. Rather have a Rose Bowl than three straight final fours.

The Cal vs Oregon game at Levi's last year looked like an OREGON HOME GAME. I was there.

04, 06, 07. Ranking was there. Attendance wasn't consistent
