AFA will be looking for revenge after we took out their star QB in the last meeting!

The payout for this game sucks. $675K. San Jose St is in the Cure Bowl in Orlando, which would probably be a lot more fun for the players, and it pays $1,350K. Cactus pays $3,350K. We got scummed again....

We will just subtract the payout difference between the cactus and armed forces bowl from sonny's extension

This probably the only starting time where I will miss the whole game.
I get off work at 2:20 and get home at 3.
F************ck
Maybe I can hear the tail end of it on my car radio driving home.
And hopefully the pac-12 net. or ESPN will have it on streamed on replay.

A game against any bowl eligible p5 school would have been ok.

No mention of Goff? I hate this Bowl! We should have taken the one in Hawaii. AF got beat by SDS who we beat by what 25 points?

It is, but team expenses are an ambiguity. Since this is not a P12 contracted game, will the conference help out if cal rins a deficit? Expenses are often around million. For the big bowls a team can blow 2 mil or so and still get that covered. Another issue is that teams are contractually required to buy a set number of hotel rooms and tickets. Not sure of the conference helps cover if those aren't met.TouchedTheAxeIn82;842611929 said:
Isn't bowl revenue distributed equally among all conference members?

Interesting matchup since we can't stop the run.

To do that next year or anytime in the future, we need to win 8 games in the regular season, which means we need to beat one of the contending teams.
In other words, if you want to face real competition in a bowl, you need to demonstrate the talent and coaching to compete at that level during the regular season. We haven't, and we're not. Sounds fair.

There are these things called DVRs.
They are really wonderful things.
I know people like to watch football games live, but when you DVR them to watch a few hours later, you can skip the commercials, and not miss a thing.
Right now, I'm DVRing the Carolina Panthers game that started 2 hours ago.
I'll start watching it in half an hour, and I'll be done with the whole game in 90 minutes.
DVRs are wonderful things.
Again, I know some people love to watch live...but nobody's going to be spoiling the Armed Forces Bowl score for you, hopefully.

I think MANY people mis-remember the Air Force game in 07. Had their quarterback not gone down with an injury (Shaun Carney, if I remember right - and I think that's who you're thinking of, tc) we would have lost. Cal's defense couldn't stop their option offense. And yes, Riley had a good day coming off the bench - but not a great day. Again, Cal was lucky to have won - I was there.
Take a look

Kevin Riley was a complete BOSS that day. I have no doubt that he would've been a very good QB in the TFS with his escapability and downfield accuracy...but oh well. Good kid.
Should be fun again this time around.

That's not how I remember it at all. I recall Air Force's option runs were beginning to get stuffed every play starting about the same time Riley came in, early second quarter. Carney getting injured just settled the issue, late 3rd quarter. And I think Cal may have started the game with a 4-3 defense, but then switched to a 3-4 about the same time the defense started stopping those options. And as I recall Cal kept using the 3-4 as a base defense starting in 2008 (they were mostly 4-3 in 2007).
GivemTheAxe;842612223 said:
That is the way I remember it. Cal had difficulty stopping the option in the 1st QTR but then figured out how to do it. Cal took the lead just before the AF QB got hurt.

I don't think Riley was accurate enough on his shorter passes to excel in the TFS. That was a real problem for him, what was it, his junior season?

For the first half, no one could get the ball to the receivers, particularly to Jackson. All ANY QB had to do was throw it way downfield and he'd get it. Longshore was hurt and couldn't. Tedford finally accepted that Longshore was hurt and couldn't throw, put in Riley and Jackson made some great plays, along with a no longer demoralized Cal team. Tedford's stubbornness nearly cost the team the game. Nothing went right before Riley came in. And based on the prior six weeks, we all knew how bad the bowl was going to get with Longshore in. This bowl game is a really bad memory for me, even though the team won.

As for payout, all bowl $ goes to the conference to be divided among members after expenses are deducted.
One advantage of this bowl over the Cactus is that the Cactus is 12/19, meaning 10 days fewer of practice.

Actually is there a standard allotment of days for bowl game practice, or by virtue of later bowl date, do you get more days?
