something similar actually happened to me and a friend when we bought tickets to the tournament game in San Jose vs UNLV a couple years ago. bought tickets through stub hub, printed them out and were ready to go, and then we got an email saying that the tickets were no longer available. stub hub did give us other tickets which were comparable but slightly worse, but this event wasn't that desirable unlike the story above.

My StubHub story: I bought a ticket on StubHub for last year's Cal-UW basketball game in Seattle. I printed out the ticket, but it didn't work when scanned at the door. They wouldn't let me in, so I had to buy a ticket at the box office. It's likely that the ticket seller (probably a ticket broker) didn't bother to transfer the ticket as required. I've read lots of complaints of this type on the internet. These ticket brokers will list the same tickets on dozens of websites and try to sell the same seat over and over. StubHub doesn't seem to care that much.

Bought tickets to the CU game from the ATO and printed them out at home. Apparently printed the same ticket three times. First scan worked and the others were invalid. Showed the receipt from my phone and we were waved in. Was told scalpers resell the same seat multiple times every game and unless you have the original receipt, you're SOL.

I don't buy tickets from the Stub Hub pimp nor the ticket whores they do business with.

i don't get why the guy waited a month before being concerned about not having the tickets in hand. doesn't make sense. if you buy physical tickets on stub hub and don't have them in 3 days, you should be calling them to complain. his order was in mid november, and the notice was in late december. something's not right about this story.

Normally you receive electronic tickets from StubHub minutes after ordering, which I assume happened with this gentleman. The problem is that 1 month later he received an email from StubHub saying the electronic tickets he received are now invalid.

That was the problem and cause of outrage by others and myself.

If I have the above story wrong, feel free to correct.

Except StubHub hasn't said how they will change their policy to prevent this from happening again. They just said this shouldn't have happened and they will try to prevent this from happening again. Standard boilerplate PR bs.

StubHub needs to explicitly state how they will change their policy. The door is open for a competitor to solve this problem and take away a chunk of their market share.

I have used StubHub to sell tickets and buy tickets. I am satisfied with their service. For Cal away games, I have gotten better deals than buying from either the Cal or the other school's ATO. I did buy the wrong parking pass for an away game and they did make some concessions to help me. I have sold Cal tickets online for games I could not make or had extra that my friends did not want.

StubHub has partnered with Cal ATO, so I trust them more than other websites. The article is more about a greedy seller. The question is how far can StubHub go to force the seller to sell when the seller has the original tickets?

Agree.

Ultimately, the majority of buyers are going to go with a place that's well-known and offers the best secondary market prices. These types of situations are few and far between. I doubt SH will take a hit to their market share because of this.
