Sad. Saw them at the Coliseum arena in 77 or 78 with Roy Orbison. Great show. Really enjoyed and still love their music.

Add Mic Gillette who died yesterday.
Original Tower of Power and Sons of Champlin Horn player.
While not as big a name, a Bay Area original and good guy for sure.

This one really stings for me. I love the Eagles and play them all the time in heavy rotation. Really one of the underrated bands in my opinion. It's like they get taken less seriously because they were so popular and wrote lyrics that hit home to so many people. Therefore they couldn't be as cool as some of the other acts. Also, east coast bias. I did not get to see them in person until a few years ago. So glad I made it to that show. Very sad today.

I am not a Boomer. My friends that introduced me to the Eagles weren't Boomers. We all loved them. Such great lyrics.

History of the Eagles is one of the best Rocumentary films I have seen. Grade: A. If you like Country Rock you should check out Poco, Gram Parsons, Flying Burrito Brothers, Dan Fogelberg, several cuts off Stephen Stills' album Manassas, and the Byrds album Sweetheart of the Rodeo.

I saw them about ten years ago at an Indian Casino, not a big venue like a football stadium; but a great show on a pleasant evening.

I remember seeing them from 1975-76-77. 1975 was the magical year that Cal was so special with Roth, and the year I graduated Skyline High. I think I went to every DOTG except 2 from the early days until 1981 when I left for San Diego for grad school. Growing up in the Oakland Hills, we just took BART down to the Coliseum. The Eagles were so special cause they had the high school identity for many of us......so many bands did. He surely will be missed.

Sad. He had a heart attack a few years back and slowed it down. Awesome that he taught and mentored young musicians.

Speaking of underrated, during their early years they was a total division by rock fans, some thinking they were too "soft." Then Walsh joined them, they dropped any country influence, and starting playing harder rock. To see how it was, watch the Big Lebowski in a great scene where the cabbie throws our hero out of the car for dissing Peaceful Easy Feeling.

RIP Glenn.

Been a tough week for pop culture legends, particularly guys who were still "young" (relatively speaking). Crazy that in essence he was killed by a form of arthritis (ulcerative colitis). As a guy who has taken a few arthritis drugs in my time, this is scary stuff. I would like to again request for Cal to find a way to get to the Rose Bowl...... Soon!

I was there in the upper deck, to the right of the stage. On a seam in the concrete between sections. When they played Walsh/James Gang songs, the upper deck literally rocked, and each section rocked independently from the other, as I could tell through my feet as they moved up and down independently.

Cheryl Crow opened for them, and I swear she needed to fire her whole sound crew. Never heard an opening act sound so lousy.

August 17, 1992, I made a point of standing on a corner in Winslow Arizona, just to say that I did.

Thank you very much for the suggestion. Watched part 1 on Vimeo, then realized the whole thing is on Netflix, so watched part 2 there.

And I just realized that Fry wrote the song at the conclusion of "Thelma & Louise," a favorite movie of mine. And the music fits the ending perfectly, if you ask me.

Thanks again!

All the talk about the Eagles and Day on the Greens motivated me to dig through some old photos. Attached is a picture my buddy took with a telephoto lens of Neil Young at a Day on the Green in July,1974. Neil had just cut his long hair. We all thought it was an act of high treason. The dude kept his bad 'burns, though:

For fans of the movie Almost Famous, a must read:

http://www.rollingstone.com/music/features/remembering-glenn-frey-cameron-crowe-on-eagles-teen-king-20160121

GLENN FREY TAUGHT CROWE HOW TO CRAFT A PROPER BUZZ.

Russell Hammond, Billy Crudup’s character, was loosely based on Glenn Frey of the Eagles, and in real life Frey actually uttered the “Look, just make us look cool” line to Crowe. Frey also contributed a lesson on how to hold a drinking buzz, which Crowe scribbled down. “If you want to craft a buzz correctly, you walk into a party, you drink two beers quickly,” Crowe shared with Rolling Stone. “Then you drink a beer every hour and 15 minutes after that. You’ll always have a buzz and you’ll never get too embarrassing.” After their 1970s encounters, Crowe and Frey worked together again in 1996, when Crowe cast Frey as Dennis Wilburn in Jerry Maguire.

Thanks for the links, great live version!

i like both, but nothing compares to the 4 part harmony by the Eagles!

Saw them from 2nd row in summer of 1972, OKC Fairgrounds Arena a few weeks after Take it Easy was released and had hit the radio. They were the opening band for Jethro Tull, right after Thick as a Brick was released. The Eagles only played for about 30 minutes, but blew everybody away. Saw them again at Day on the Green, at Coliseum in about 1977, again at Concord a few years ago. They never disappointed.

bearister, you may enjoy the book "Sound Man", written by and about Glyn Johns, who produced/engineered Eagles early albums. And of course, dozens of other albums by the Stones, Who, Clapton, Beatles, Steve Miller, Ryan Adams among others.

Someone wrote this on YouTube:
Another part of growing up has gone home, there will only be one Glenn Frey, he checked us into the Hotel California, while we were taking it easy with life in the fast lane. He made us feel like Desperado's and warned us about witchy women with Lying Eyes. We all know that love will keep us alive and Glenn in your songs you will always be alive in our hearts and minds, as the thrill will never be gone. So tonight the angles in heaven will have to step aside for just a while because there is a new kid in town.
