Marshawn as RB coach??

he sure doesn't need the money and he seems like the type of guy who would like to coach? tho most of what I know about him is thru a relative that knows him

Why not, he is a local guy and aside from coaching would be a monster recruiter.

i would think his passion would be to coach younger players through camps in the Oakland area before thinking of coaching at a higher level. I see him working a lot in the community first

Ah no, he can jump right in as head coach. :p

He needs to finish his degree before he's allowed to coach.

No matter what he does, the AD and Sonny should reach out and encourage him to finish his degree.

We don't need him to coach to be a great benefit for the program. Just make sure he keeps coming to practices, the spring game, and now games in the Fall (especially on the same day that Najee Harris visits).

I can see it already. He will produce a few Beast Mode System training videos. Sponsored by Skittles.

By the way Mic Jagger was a step down for Skittles.

The only thing he's missing, his degree ... and it would really make Mama Lynch proud.
It wouldn't be a surprise if he does ...
and he might go for Grad Assistant, just because nobody pays him to do it.

I'd love to see ML coach at Cal but my guess is he has bigger fish to fry with the youth center in Oakland he wants to build, where he'll help way more kids. Frankly I'd be more impressed with that but after that, why not. The guy hasn't hit 30 yet. All said, I wouldn't be surprised if he jumps into coaching after some time off.

Steven Tyler. Neither Jagger or Tyler can break tackles or drive a cart.

REally, smacks of elitism to me .. why would a football coach have to have a college degree (not that it might not help) when the head of microsoft doesn't have one .

I do not think that is true. Jahvid Best did not have his degree and he was helping out the running backs as he came back to Cal to finish his degree.

Problem is, the job of assistant coach in college is a grind. Somebody who's set for life doesn't need that money, nor do they need the countless hours out on recruiting trips, in team meetings, etc.

Context matters. Would see zero problems with NFL teams not requiring college degrees, but Cal's a world class university which has historically had a problem graduating revenue sport athletes.

Marshawn can do whatever he wants with or without a degree, but doesn't seem silly for Cal to have high academic aspirations for athletes and coaches. Respect and admire KJ and Shareef for coming back to Cal to finish their degrees when there was no economic necessity to do so. Wish Marshawn all the best and he can unofficially help the University and football program in multiple ways, but full time coaches should have a degree.

If we are trying to send a message to players at HS and College level that an education is important, he should get his college degree. That does not sound that elitist to me.

Or maybe someone would argue with Chancellor Dirks that a college degree is not that important to the recruits Cal is seeking. Been there. Done that.

The primary mission of the NFL is not to educate.
