do kids suddenly decide to graduate early mid semester? honest question. if you hit the unit cap, then you are forced to grad. given that he has huge time commitments I find that highly unlikely. it's more likely he has known he'd be pursuing this option at least a semester ago.
he had to have known the difficulty of getting into a Berkeley program given Scarlett's and Avery's ordeals.

Am I the only one who is kind of miffed by this? I mean, I am definitely all for graduating, and the statement was classy, but when the team is looking to you for experience and leadership on defense - at a position where we have precious little depth - you just leave? Sorry, I just don't think that's the right thing to do. Maybe there's more to the story than I realize, but I think it's a bad look.

My feeling is that Hardy expected to be around next season. His old man got a DC gig and things changed quickly.
Not sure about Avery, but Scarlett could have continued, IIRC.

Hardy can't graduate until he finishes summer courses. He was probably NOT going to do that summer work or a reduced version of it but now he is gonna finish it out over the summer so probably he didn't make the decision til recently

Selfish decision. Sometimes you have to pass on opportunities line this. I'm very disappointed in both Hardy JR and sr.

For all that Cal did for Hardy Jr. and Sr., you don't turn your back on a program that counted on Jr. to lead the defense. While Aaron Rodgers' lack of respect for his alma mater tops the list, I was very disappointed to see Hardy join that group.

Could only happen at Cal. Nonetheless, good luck HN Jr.

Career-wise, HN Jr will get a bigger benefit playing for his dad and Lovely Smith, especially if he wants to get into coaching. Smith was a 2x NFL HC and his dad is a NFL lifer as player and coach. He plays for those guys and he'll get his foot in the door of the coaching ranks faster. He won't get that staying.

true, but he'll probably try to go pro first anyway, so not sure how important this 1 year is. better coaching pedigree there on defense for sure
just sucks to lose the leaders of the team every year--and all on defense of course.

Yes. This. Wish Sr and Jr and our own bears well.

Is he good enough for the NFL? I'm not sure. I think he can get signed as a free agent but no guarantees.
If goes into coaching and stays another year as a grad assist, he'll be working with and picking the brains of a NFL coach and player. That's pretty good start if he hooks in their network. His dad can't vouch too much for him but Smith sure can.

I read somewhere he could project as the 3rd ILB in 2017 draft. obviously long time away. not sure he'd shine on measurables.

Really, okay then. Good for HNJr. I thought he was a little slow. That's never a disqualifier but it doesn't help.

I'm angry and I wish I wasn't..He was a big team leader, great character model, and fired up on the field..Did he not participate fully in spring ball?? What's up with these guys? I am old and early leaving in itself is frustrating, although bless him if he gets the BA. Playing for dad? Pffffftt..He's a Bear!
