I expect that Webb will have to earn his way to the starting position. He is not being joined on the team by a half brother who is a 5* recruit.

Saw Kiper has him #1 for 2017 seniors on his draft board - seems a lock to start.

This is getting a lot of press. Is it because he is replacing the #1 pick in the NFL draft, or because he is that good?

I don't think the staff gives him the keys yet until he proves himself and beats out the other QB's. But with that being said.....won't be surprised to see him under center in the fall.

I have to admit, I haven't been following Webb that closely. I'm a little confused. Kiper has him #1 for 2017 seniors, but he wasn't starting in 2015? Was that injury related?

He needs to be obviously better than all the other candidates for this to work out. Otherwise it is bad all around.

If Dykes can generate success with DWebb, he's going to get a lot of attraction from qb recruits.

I think it's a quite a bit about him replacing the #1 draft pick but among NFL people he's seen as a potential first round pick so he's a big story himself.

This bodes well for Hawaii and Texas, if we win both, we should be bowling again.

IIRC when he first became HC and upon undertaking to find his starting QB, Sonny said that if he had a Senior QB who was just slightly better than a Sophmore QB or Freshman QB (who were both about equal), he would start the Freshman QB since he wanted the starting QB to have as many years as possible as starter.

Lo and behold. Goff was selected as starting QB over Bridgford(?), Hinder and Kline.

Goff earned the starting job in open competition ... just as Webb will have to do, as well as being much better than younger players who have been and will be here longer. Competition.

He didn't start last year because the other guy was perceived to be better. Sometimes when you have a guy that played the last 8 games well of one season,you hate to bench him in favor of someone who is coming off an injury and has not played in a year.

That being said,Texas Tech went 7-6 last year

Webb dislocated his shoulder, no? Isn't that one of those injuries that if you do it once it can easily happen again? The kid looks skinny like Goff. Runs like that Utah QB last year (name?). He also has a very uncanny delivery like Tom Brady. Almost lazy in his effort, with a light touch on the ball. His feet look like they are always in mud. Seems to telegraph some of his throws, but looks to mastered the pump fake a bit more later in his career. If I am a current Cal QB, I'm not betting this kid stays healthy all year.

Quick thoughts:

- Funny how ESPN has a top article saying Webb "snubbed" CU but never had a word about DRob, a much higher profile recruit, who snubbed the entire SEC.

- Whether Webb starts or not, it seems his transfer just gave us more industry cred

- I would love to see the video of that tool Macintyre being given the news. I can just see him with his fists clenched crying and yelling "its not fair!"

He was commenting on my quote of this is big time football and you bring in the best players possible. That was based on somebody questioning why we rocked the boat so to speak. What part of that is even arguable?

Honest/ignorant question: just how similar of an offense is he coming from? At least superficially similar I am sure, but similar protections and reads?

If Sonny and Spav want him, then I am all in! I don't care how much better...better is better. That one more completion could be the difference in a W. The guys have competed all their lives...deal with it.
