A friend of mine is a captain in the CHP. He is required to carry his gun with him. He got a nod from a police officer at the football game when he came in through the gate at Memorial several years ago. No search.

I'll bite: Why is a CHP captain REQUIRED to carry his gun with him when not on duty? Serious question. Is this also the rule for any govt. law enforcement officers? BART Police? Rangers?

If Cal Athletics doesn't have their heads up their butts (huge "if", I know), they will be selling them all around the stadium at every game: Cheap-azz ones for folks who just get caught unawares... and "investment quality" cool Cal ones, for fans who know they'll be using it several times a year for the rest of their lives.

Just another (minor) part of general trend of making it less attractive to actually attend Cal games in person.
Not as bad as having the uncertain time frame and finding out most are in the late 7pm slot.
Not as bad as all the marketing crapola we have to put up with at every break in the action.
Not as bad as the lengthy breaks in action for TV audiences that lengthen the game to well over 3 hours.

But if trend continues, I will soon bail off the bandwagon. Only thing really keeping me in the game now is having tailgates with my friend and family before the games. But when you never know game times until a few days before, that is also becoming more difficult.

I agree 100%. Seems like they are doing everything possible to drive a tv only audience.

I was about to check the Cal store online, assuming that they would be for sale already--it sounds like I can save myself the trouble. They'll probably be available sometime mid-December.

The law enforcement guys I know, two of which we've taken to Cal football games, just like carrying their guns. I'm not sure it's required (it may very well be I just don't know) but they are allowed to and they LOVE, LOVE their guns. I kept wondering why me best friend, a DEA agent, would always tilt the passenger seat in my car back when he got in. One day he told me it was so the gun tucked under his shirt and belt wouldn't dig into his stomach. Instantly felt like Training Day.

Yep.......and they are gonna pull them out of opaque, brown cardboard boxes.
On the bright side.........
They bought a new garden hose for the East side to drink from.

I wonder how the chemicals leaching from the lining of the hose will affect the pH.

Try children's backpacks at Walmart. I've brought in sandwiches wrapped at the deli with no problem in my backpack.

so 2 of these 3 the school has no control over, or any school for that matter (TV times and length of commercials). My guess is that the marketing "crapola" helps make some revenue? Or at least help pay for the stadium.

Anyone care to share their experiences from Texas here, especially if they were hassled?

While in line, there was a staff member who was giving away clear plastic bags. I took one, didn't end up needing it. I have a messenger bag that collapsed easily under the jacket I was carrying. They didn't give a hoot. They were just trying to process the line quickly. This was at the highest entry point on the southside, right before the start of the game.

Are unopened water bottles still allowed?

When I pulled in to my parking garage the attendant asked if I knew about the new bag policy. I said "Yes...do you know where I can get one?" and she handed me a bag.

I saw a lot of people in the crowd approaching the stadium who were carrying non-compliant bags; but I didn't see anybody having trouble getting through the line.

I just realized that the model for both the Cal and 49ers policy adverts is the same girl! Gotta give her agent kudos for locking down both Pac12 and NFL gigs,

Diaper bags are okay if infant is with you upon entry.

I was going to say that this policy will make it tough for parents to bring their babies/toddlers to games. Glad they make an exception for diaper bags.
