What is weird is that if you google ANZ roof you get:
THE ROOF
A key design feature of the Stadium is the translucent, saddle-shaped roof. The roof has been developed to suit Australian conditions by allowing maximum natural light during daytime events for player and spectator visibility.
The polycarbonate roof slopes down, thereby enhancing the atmosphere and optimising the venue's acoustics, while at the same time providing effective sun and rain protection for spectators. The roof also reduces glare and shadow on the field, ensuring ideal conditions for daytime TV broadcasts.
Suspended from a huge arch structure and measuring three hectares in area, the roof is made of giant 10 x 10 metre square polycarbonate 'tiles' separated by a series of stainless steel drainage gutters. The entire structure is contained in a framework made of materials flexible enough to cope with the changing shape of the roof plane and the expansion of the polycarbonate in hot sunlight.
ANZ Stadium is one of the few stadia in the world which effectively shades and protects most spectators without creating the claustrophobic feel of a fully enclosed dome. At the same time, the Stadium's unique design provides an environment for optimal turf growth.
So the roof doesn't allow water in and the turf is bad?
In any event, here is my Sydney wrap for today:
1) Aussies don't tip typically, and as a result, restaurant service and the like stinks. They usually respond by ripping the service to scare them into better service.
Most people have weird restaurant stories, and say the local wine is terrible. The Bay Area food industry is more impressive than people realize. Hawaii and Cal rebelled against the game operator to have a tailgate jointly without the game operator. Trust me, this is far better than what was planned by the operator. There was a big disconnect as to what is a tailgate party.
2) Per Sonny:
a) Downs really has come into his own
b) We now seem to have a pass rush, and DEs have improved dramatically
c) This is the fastest team he has been associated with
d) As discussed, oline and Webb are the strengths of the offense, and watch running backs and Robertson to make big plays.
e) Will see a lot more speed in the offense this year. Hawaii also will sue hurry-up, so look for tired defenses.
f) Kicker is elite
g) Kickoffs going into or out of end zones in practice. Some of this is the ball, some is PG is just bigger and stronger.
h) Initial practice field was 100 meters, not yards.
i) Sonny is expecting the birth of a son.
Mike P. said:
1) QBs will have a hard time initially adjusting to ANZ due to a lack of background (its an Australian rules football layout).
2) Hawaii will run up-tempo, but is weaker on defense this year, having lost most of their dline.
Weather seems to be improving.
