So a USC player purposefully stomps on the groin of an Alabama player and gets a half game suspension. Why are you allowed to get a slap on the wrist for assaulting someone intentionally after a play has ended because it's during a football game? Also, two USC players allegedly filmed themselves raping a woman after giving her marijuana, benzos, and alcohol, sent the film to the woman's ex-boyfriend, and are still allowed to play [Edit: USC has now taken more aggressive action against both of the players involved]. How many women have to be raped or beaten before big time football programs start taking these incidents seriously?

Yea so where are you getting any of this "news" from?

I don't believe that either of the players involved in the drug/rape were on the field. Obviously, the player who did the stomping was.

I found this "news" on ESPN and Fox News but it's being reported on other media outlets as well. It would have taken you as much time to type "USC groin stomp" or "USC football sexual assault" into google as it did to reply to this message.

Stivo the main perp in the sex case is suspended indefinitely and the guy who is supposed to be the accomplice was sent home. Didn't play. Now should they both be off the team and out of the school? Yes but probably won't happen until more definitive guilt is ascertained (no wont take long)

Thanks for the update, Moonpod. Sounds like USC, to their credit, decided to take some action. I've edited the original post to include this info.

LA Times sports page reported today that the stomp guy is suspended for the first half against Utah State. The other two guys are going to class, practicing with the team and are attending team meetings.

Sounds like more of the same we've all learned to expect from USC. Which Cal running back was it (Echemandu?) who got his balls grabbed by a USC player at the bottom of a heap a few years back? He told a ref about it, and you can see the ref smile and shrug it off.

Knock on wood ... No drama here

Could you imagine sc in Australia for a week ... I could see players not making flight there and back to start

F sc ( football team)

To be fair re groin stomp: he was ejected in the first (?) quarter. A half game suspension is now more than one game missed. Seems about right to me.

yup. this made me laugh:

Quote:

A USC spokesman declined to say if the status of Masina had been changed.

He was allowed to practice last week, though did not travel with the team to Dallas on Thursday night in preparation for the opener against Alabama.

USC coach Clay Helton said he was deferring to the university for further disciplinary action.

“It's out of our hands as coaches,” Helton said, when asked Wednesday why Masina was allowed to practice. “We're basically doing all of our guidance through the university. The university has allowed him to go to class, allowed him to practice and allowed him to do meetings.”

LOL so the school is forcing Helton to let Masina practice?

Interesting. That is right about when Alabama really heated up and kicked the ever-loving snot out of U$C. Good job, $C for pissing them off.

Actually I think it's a good policy but ends up making USC look far worse. The HC has an interest in not suspending players that are suspected but not yet convicted of wrong-doing, so the decision should be taken out of his hands. The fact that the administrators are letting the guy practice with the team shows you that the whole culture at USC is, as you would expect, that of a football factory.

A snapchat of the rape should be more than enough to move the needle from "suspected" to "you're gone."

You have to be pretty stupid to rape someone. You have to be a special kind of stupid to do it then send a video of it to the girl's ex-boyfriend.

A sexual assault may have occurred or the intercourse might have been consensual. The suspect, who hasn't been charged, has a presumption of innocence. The fact that she partied with him again 2 weeks after the first alleged assault is an odd detail. If he is convicted of assault then he will be punished by the legal system.
IMHO, the groin stomper should be suspended for a year.

An LSU offensive lineman, Josh Boutte, got slapped with a 1-game suspension for his cheap shot hit on a Wisconsin defensive back after a game-sealing interception at Lambeau Field. While that was dirty and egregious, it wasn't as dangerous as Jabari Ruffin stomping on Minkah Fitzpatrick's man area. Ruffin should have gotten a full game suspension like Boutte.

I agree. I think a full game would have been more appropriate. BYU also had a guy who punched a guy in the ol' apple bag last year against Boise State and got no suspension, however.

I believe that the thinking on the Ruffin suspension was that he missed the majority of the Bama game (kicked out in the first half) so that the first half suspension of the next game would make it a whole game lost.... that said, I agree that it should have been the whole next game..

BYU is the dirtiest team around. Not outright dirty just super chippy, always trying to bait the other team into an altercation. But there is always that one wayward soul who doesn't get the memo and punches below the belt...

Sorry the head shot to a defenseless player by a 300 lb guy is WAY more dangerous than the foot stomp. Also, as I said before, the stomper will miss more than a full game. The LSU cheap shot happened at the end of the game. So the suspensions are even.

Yes and yes.

Several here have stated a mere 1-1.5 game suspension is enough for intentionally stomping on a grounded opponent's privates. That's almost Palo Alto level of leniency there; furdie wink-justice. If you're on the ground and I intentionally stomp on your jewels, I likely spend at least a few weeks in the county jail with mr. bubba even if there's no permanent injury to you. The consented to contact in football does not (should not) extend to intentional jewel-stomping. It should have resulted in a several game suspension, at least one-third to one-half of the season, plus reduction in scholarship money and community service to (1) punish for the wrongdoing, (2) deter other surreptitious attempts to injure/spay-neuter downed opponents with ftbl cleats, and (3) rehabilitate from thug behavior.

Regarding the alleged rapists, let the investigation run its course before coming to ANY condemnatory, punitive conclusions. The first (and second) non-official reports are often one-sided, incomplete, inaccurate, &/or incendiary to drive traffic/agenda. The same applies for any other type of serious allegations such as harassment/molestation, police brutality on racial grounds, terrorist violence, etc. If they're held guilty or the video shows the accuser is unconscious, then drop the hammer.

Perhaps one of you posters familiar with criminal law could explain why the SC player's action of deliberately stomping on another player after the whistle is not being prosecuted as a battery. This was not mutual combat or a little pushing and shoving that is "part of the game". If you or I did such a thing on the street, unprovoked but caught on video, would we not expect to be prosecuted? If not, why do we have laws against battery?

Even if what you say is true (and I don't have any reason not to believe you), sending a sex video to other people is an indiscretion grave enough to merit being kicked off the team, IMO. And it's probably also some sort of crime, right? Or at least an intentional infliction of emotional distress tort.

Whole thing seems strange. Obviously there's some past history between these players, the woman and the ex bf. As the coach, the video would be enough to say "rape or not, these men do not represent the values of SC football and are off the team," not wait for a jury verdict.

Groin stomp - same thing. I'd hope if one of our players did this Dykes would either boot him or give him a long suspension, whatever NCAA says.

Is it any less reckless to call the players rapists? To send a video is against the law and but far from rape.
