as the game progressed, it was more and more ominous that we couldn't stop their RB, and we couldn't get into the end zone (kudos to our kicker Anderson who was money)

but for this team to be successful this year, we need to win the close one, and have the ball bounce our way. That happened when WE got the onside kick (again, kudos to Anderson)

it just seemed that we were going to win that game after the onside kick recovery, and if we did it would have really been a lift because it would have given the players the confidence that no situation was impossible, and that we can make clutch plays

Our kickers did their jobs admirably, for sure. Somebody said that our punter didn't, but I guess I didn't pay close attention to our punts.

But, yeah, I thought that we had the game after we recovered the onside kick. I'll say this about our boys: they scratched and clawed enough to hang around and give us chance. Too bad they couldn't get over the hump.

Thank you, chazzed, for making the first supportive comment about the players and how they fought hard until the end. Apparently no one else can get by spewing venom against the coaching to acknowledge their effort. Yes, even with the turnovers and kick-off return that to me were the difference between winning and losing this game.

Thought that Bieto did the onside kick.

It's easy to get lost in despair, but I'll always respect Cal football players, and Cal athletes in general, for putting their bodies out there like that.

That's what I heard too. It was a beauty, whether by design or luck, at that point I will take it.

Agreed. The kids' efforts should be acknowedged and appreciated. They played their asses off. They could have easily given up.

Which makes the coaches failings even worse. Its a shame that they arent putting their kids in the best position to win. (You like that pivot? Ive been watching a lot of cnn recently, its more entertaining than the daily show nowadays)

I assumed Anderson does our kickoffs, but that's just an assumption. If Bieto did the onside kick then kudos to him

it was about a perfect onside kick you can get ... end over end, with good speed, and enough distance (but not too much distance to go out of bounds)

the player who recovered the kick should also be recognized too. Not an easy situation to make a clean recovery, but he played it perfectly. Clutch.

If he can make that kick somewhat consistently, and our defensive coaching doesn't change, I say we go for onside kicks a few times a game
