OT: Inexpensive hotel/motel idea for 2 day stay in San Diego this weekend

Can anyone recommend an inexpensive area (or the actual hotel/motel) to stay Friday and Saturday this weekend in (around) San Diego. Looking to keep costs low on this turnaround trip. Don't mind being too far outside San Diego proper but we will be walking around Balboa Park Saturday so I'd rather not have an hour drive into town.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I'm pretty sure Hotel Circle has a bunch of cheaper hotels and is not too far from downtown. Probably not walking distance but you could snag a cheap uber or take the nearby trolley from Mission Valley.

Thanks Joe. Yah, bad timing.

I need to clarify my 'price point'...if I spend a $100 a night I'll be disappointed. I debated the idea of camping for the two nights with my wife. The only reason we are not is because she didn't want to get out the camping stuff.
What's National City like?

It's part of my plan to go to the city of our last game the week after the game. Just trying to change the Bear karma.

Would you consider Austin, Tx instead of SD?

I couldn't find any cheapies online for this close to the weekend. Probably my ignorance.
I ended up booking a room in National City at a Cassia Hotel. Never heard of them or National City. But it was pretty cheap and close enough to San Diego.

What's wrong with National City? I used to spend my childhood summers there, with my aunt, uncles and cousins.

I recall it was very suburban, like ET suburban. There was a canyon across the street and everybody on the block was in the Navy and there wasn't a store for miles.

Haven't been there since the '90s, though.

I'm just sleeping there folks. As long as my car doesn't get broken into or I don't get mugged walking out to my car I'll be happy. Oh yah, I don't really want to see animals (other than me :-o) in my room.

Ha! I was thinking of Michael Pitts since the first mention of National City in this thread! Great to see him at Haas last season. (highly recruited 6-11 Cal Basketball player from the early-mid 1980s)
