I actually see a lot of promise in this team, they're just young. Everyone's going to pile on Spav and Dykes, but I actually see the foundation of a solid team here. Cal will be ok. This year, gonna be tough to get to a bowl, but I really feel the future is good. Wouldn't surprise me at all to see them turn around and smack Utah. Team has a ton of talent and ability, just a matter of putting it together. Tough loss, hope they can put this behind them.

This is year four with Dykes and we're still doing the same ****. And as great as Webb is he's now 50% on making the game killing play...

In 2013 and 2014 we had a pretty bare cupboard, and if not for that Hail Mary in Tucson we would have gone to a bowl in 2014. 2015 we had some experienced and did alright. This year we are retooling, but there is potential. We aren't getting blown out on the road, yet.

Such is the life of the Cal fan, what more can we expect? It's hard to recruit and develop good teams consistently when:
* You won't pay staff
* Your University basically doesn't give a crap about you
* It's hard to recruit because you have a history of not being a top tier program
* Cal Fans.

This is the truth, we gave up 10 points on turnovers right down the stretch and that cost us. We failed to capitalize on the one turnover we did get.

Why would you retool with a grad transfer at QB? Seems like you would want your young receivers to gel with a longer term QB. We did that with Goff.

I'm just frustrated that 2 of 4 years with Dykes yields the worst defense in the country. I realize college football has changed, but his track record with defense is scary.

Come on now NYC, that's not entirely true. We couldn't stop the run in the 2nd half to save our lives. We couldn't run in the 2nd half and never adjusted away from the 1st down straight ahead run / 2nd down pass combo. It was terrible. The TO's only mattered because we got tooled in the 2nd half up to that point.

Yeah and unlike the last 3 seasons we did not have a QB to build around long-term, plus have had to manage an offensive coordinator change.

Sorry to keep disagreeing with people but...I disagree. Webb is nothing special at all. He's just a system QB who accumulates numbers. His footwork is suspect, he gets locked on to a route/receiver and throws the ball no matter what, turns the ball over way too much and does not manage the offense (delay of game penalties with this offense? Really?). He has zero skills that make you think he's special. Some stupid team will fall in love with his stats and measurable, but they'll regret it. We are going to suffer next year for not playing one of the younger guys this year during a mediocre season.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. There was a time I was convinced that Brock Mansion would be the greatest Cal QB of all time. I was mad that we weren't playing him and letting him develop because our future was on the line. The reality is that you can't predict the future. At most a CFB player has 4 years of play time on a college team. You can't look to the future, you have to play the best players you have today to try and win every game.

Not better than Longshore pre-injury. Longshore was a damned good field general and could make all the passes and if I remember correctly, ranked as the #1 QB in the draft his junior year....then the ankle injury and he turned into Mark Sanchez.

It's early yet in conference play. With the exception of possibly Furd (gotdammit), every team is beatable.

I thought the play calling in the 3rd quarter was terrible. First down into the line, etc....but Webb just lost it.

Yeah that's the silver lining I think we can take from this. We're probably not going to do it, but say with run the table. We still go to the Rose Bowl.

Also its important to keep in mind that Wazzu was in a very similar situation at the beginning of last year. Things will get better. The hardest road game we have left is SC, and even that one is winnable if we just buckle down and figure out how to play a four-quarter game on either side of the ball.

Sonny had money on the game so he was trying to beat the spread.
