My wife wants to tailgate on Saturday, and it sounds like a plan to me, to have a nice day even if the football is subpar. We're parking in the lot next to the stadium, and I thought we'd take a couple of wheeled coolers on to campus and find a place to sit and eat. My question is: are campus police going to bother us if we pull out and open a bottle of wine or a couple of beers? I'm not even sure what the alcohol rules are for campus, and I just don't want our day upset by an issue with Cal's finest.

Not a problem: I remember, my first game after I had graduated (a while back, to be sure), we were planning our first tailgate party ever... I ended up calling somebody at Cal (UCPD?) about this. They sort of laughed and said not to worry.

We've always had great interaction with UC's finest during tailgates. They often take us up on offers of food and beverage (but never alcohol) and have paid us many compliments on our travelling mixologists. They have also provided great advice on parking and post game traffic!

As for location, I suggest the sloping lawn just west of Morrison Hall. Not too far from the stadium - never crowded, mix of sun and shade and a nice spot for people watching.

As others have said: I've done this for years and never had campus police approach me even once. I've even had a little pop up grill on a few occasions. I see plenty of much larger groups do the same thing (for example the group that is always outside Moses Hall). You'll be fine.

Faculty Glade is a really nice spot. Grass, Strawberry Creek and view of the nearby Campanile. Plus, there is a bar in the Faculty Club if you need a bathroom and a couple minutes to catch up on college football games on TV.

Nobody will hassle you over booze unless you are causing trouble.
