According to 247 Sports:

Not sure how this will impact the landscape of players moving on if they are not declared the starter come day one.....but it does appear to at least give some leverage to players who want to transfer and play ball at a four year institution the following year. How someone hasn't found this loophole sooner is amazing.

He looks like a genius for doing this.

Good for him. Use the system.

Also, it's fucking Bama. I have a fraternity brother who went to law school there, but still, Tuscaloosa is hardly a bastion of academia.

According to Rick Neuheisel this morning, Barnett picked this moment to transfer since school has not started at certain institutions that are on the quarter system, e.g., UCLA, which starts classes this week. He could potentially start next season or wait til Rosen declares after 3 years. I wonder why he chose that school to mention......oh, wait.

Hmm...UCLA seems to really take advantage of the timing of their quarter system scheduling to get players eligible...e.g., Takk McKinley

He's a spread/mobile QB system kinda dude. UCLA is a poor fit

isn't this similar to what zach kline was rumored to be looking into? do a 'year' at Butte compressed into spring and summer, then transfer to a FBS school? (Though he ended up at FCS, so maybe that version was NCAA approved).

Would be crazy if this worked out. I'd also think Bama's APR should take a hit. What's the difference between withdrawing now or in November? Nothing....

Not sure why the quarter system would be an advantage in this case (because Barnett is a EE with 1.5 years of classes alread) - though I can see a quarter system being a big advantage in admitting a transfer who needs significant summer school to graduate with an AA before enrolling at the 4 year school. An aside, I see a quarter system as being a BIG advantage in APR, mostly because of basketball timing with respect to the NBA draft, but I'd think it helps generally because failing a quarter is 1/3 of a yearly APR, while failing a semester is 1/2 of a year.

Leaving mid semester/ season is a pretty d!ck move, so while I usually side with players on these transfers, if this is allowed under current rules, I'd have no problem with an amendment basically preventing a player to reset the clock by withdrawing, and making the official date the end of any semester started.

One other crazy thought on this - if allowed, I'd think it would HURT quarter schools more. A lot more. Look at UCLA... their classes start next week. What if their second string QB wanted to bail after three games. He wouldn't have even attended classes yet! Seems way easier to walk then!

Was it a bastion of academia when he committed and matriculated there originally? Let's not pretend that any of this - including the place he transfers to - is based on academics.

If this guy has successfully found a way to screw Nick Saban, then I will celebrate the young man. He's certainly Cal material.

If this ploy works, I'm sure Saban will counter by not allowing his early enrollee QBs to take too many classes in his first year, or something like that. You know he'll be seething.

I was surprised to hear Alabama as a law school destination from one of my peers, but I knew a particular choice like that had other factors involved. Alabama has a top 30 law school which ain't bad but that might be the only reason why anybody would want to be in Tuscaloosa for reasons other than fun on fall Saturdays.

I would imagine that starting at a quarter system school like UCLA prior to starting the year there and complete a full academic year at that institution would be the equivalent of sitting out a year at the school. Oregon, etc are all schools starting now.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. I just wonder if the Alabama credits would transfer to a community college and count towards a AA. He may need to be at a higher academic level...

Best quote from the article just above the bikini pic...
"Getting engaged in college?? When you're the quarterback of the ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE?! What an idiot! What a god damn idi.

Wait."

No ****, wait. When you've won the game quit playing.
