Any explanation (that will satisfy me) as to the recent scheduling of Sac. State? I understand the A,B,C idea, but there are plenty of non-Power 5 teams that are at least Division 1 competition who would come to Berkeley for what we will pay Idaho State, Weber State, Cal Poly, and Sac. State. UCLA, SC, and Stanford don't play this ridiculous FCS nonsense........understanding that the Indians stopped after losing to Davis a few years ago.........but until other Calif. Pac-12 schools start playing USD, So. Utah, and No. Colo., I think schedule upgrades to Mid-American, AAC, or other non-Power-5 schools would be better for all concerned. Give me a Cent. Michigan, SMU, or UTEP over South Dakota any day.

We need to have at least one guaranteed win.

+1. And a "practice" game. With nine Pac-12 games, our schedule is plenty tough.

Go Bears!

1st off, Central Michigan isn't going to be any bigger draw than Sac. St. Secondly, If they provide a tougher game (meaning physically, more than on the scoreboard) that isn't helping your team as they prepare for conference play. More so than this year, the games in the South are going to be not only tough opponents, but physically draining considering potential weather.
Actually, this brings up another question. Is Cal still scheduled to play in Chapel Hill? So many teams/tournaments are pulling out of N.Carolina; would not be surprised for Cal to do the same...

It's because we're a power conference patsy. Ucla, Stanford, and Usc are trying to be big-time programs. We're not. No surprise that Dykes would prefer the automatic win.

Far be it from me to defend Dykes (not that the schedule is his call completely anyway) but hasn't the Cal schedule the entire time he has been here been in the top 10?
Furd and SC have N. Dame to add meat to their schedule. In general, UCLA is't doing anything more than what Cal is doing...

What? Maybe you don't like our fcs games... but our OOC schedules are stacked. Texas, TCU, Ole Miss, Auburn, UNC etc. Our sos, even with an fcs game, is always near top 5.

Sac State and Davis are punching bags who supplement recruiting for cheap without a return game. Make a lot more sense than San Jose State (same media market). Fresno State makes more sense than Cal Poly, but FSU would demand more money and a home game. San Diego State has the most fertile recruiting ground, but they're not an automatic win.

I'm hoping that eventually FBS teams will be prohibited from playing FCS teams UNLESS it is in addition to their 12 game schedule. When we only get 12 games to watch a year, I hate having one wasted as a scrimmage.
Big C

Regarding the A/B/C idea, as long as we're trying to schedule true "A"s (and we have been), I don't mind if we have one true "C". Lots of Power 5 schools schedule two of them; we can do one.

Some of the schools you mentioned are more like a "B-".

You guys are nuts, our schedules are tougher than almost any other Pac12 school. Look at the history, we have always played at least one so called "lesser" school during the season. Check out the strength of schedule info for this year and past years. Look at Washington's schedule if you want to see someone playing lots of patsies.

I want some wins and under Dykes we have taken on an extremely challenging schedule.

Conference schedules would be difficult for Cal regardless of which conference it would be. Playing one Power-5 and two "B-" teams, even if home and home, would be better for recruiting if one schedules the proper teams. Hate to say look at Stanford, but look at Stanford. They are moving about he country, selling their brand. As for winning a game, I enjoy Bear victories as much as anyone, but nothing very satisfying about routing Grambling, Weber State, or Davis. Why not schedule De La Salle? Good for recruiting; would draw a decent crowd; probably good for defensive morale since they would not rush for more than 250 yards; good chance Cal would win.

Yeah, our out-of-conference schedule this decade has some pizazz that we were lacking under Tedford for most of his tenure (other than the Tennessee games, our only other major matchups were Maryland, Michigan State, and then finally in 2012 and 2013 we get to the Ohio State series). The Texas series was great, and definitely loving the TCU, Ole Miss, Auburn matchups going into the 2020s.

What year has this game been announced for? I looked through this thread and did about a minute of Googling and... I can't find anything.

Anyone who looks at our future schedule (next year we play UNC AND Ole Miss) and concludes that we're shying away from tough competition is a f*cking moron.

And who GAF about furd's OOC schedule. Ours was harder this year, and next.

I would not mind playing there every year just for the extra game and win.

This is like "bizzaro thread." "Hey, I'm going to look at this year's schedule and just pretend this is happening every year!"
Don't even try to explain the concept of a "home and home" here....
