Cal's only chance against most teams is to score 45+ and get down with them to the last score. If our thin, young, but pretty gritty D gets worn down in the 1st half, we stand to lose the critical 2nd half drives that actually decides the game. This is how Dykes designed this team so that's why 20 drives and 9 minutes of our D on the field is very very bad even worse than if we gave up a TD in the first 3 plays.

Obviously we could have gotten a positive out of it by not giving up the TD but Saffle threw away our chances on that.

You are responding to a point I never made. I understand why long drives against our defense are bad. I simply said our defense played the drive tough. Not sure why that is a controversial point.

You should also consider that it was part of Utah's game plan as well to make our D "play the drive tough".

Sonny tells the reporter at halftime that we've gotta play smarter with all the urgency of a CEO who's having a subpar day on the golf course.

Cal defense is a bright spot except for the one penalty.

We have just played a good half of football against a good team, a few things excepted. But I see similarities here with the ASU game. Hang tough first half, and now our defense has spent the entire 2nd Q on defense. I feel that bodes trouble. I would really like our team to prove me wrong. How can you possibly have two penalties for too much time? Terrible and I put that on Webb.

So let's get our chit together and hope of a fired up, not worn out, second half. I think they have us figured pretty well now, but we don't conversely have them figured. Time to adjust coaches. This game is now up to you. Need to throw out the trickery and beat them with our receivers and Webb, not trickeration.

In fairness, with our D, a two TD lead in the 4th quarter isn't close to being safe. And that's been a pattern the entire Dykes tenure.
