Are we deserving of being ranked in the Top 25? We have defeated two ranked teams who were undefeated prior to playing us and we lost to a third ranked undefeated team by a narrow margin. Finally, our loss to ASU on the road wasn't concluded until the last seconds of the game. Certainly, we should be among the top 30 teams.

Based on receiving votes, we are #40 in AP and Coaches.

even though we beat two ranked teams, I dont believe we deserve to be ranked in the top 25 until we can put together a win streak. we probably wont break the top 25 even with a win against oregon state

Winning the next 2 puts us at a decent 5-2, probably not in the rankings unless we win the next 3 at least.

At least the next 3. We lost to SDSU.

We should have beaten both ASU and SDSU.

We beat ourselves in both.

Well, if we win the next two we'll be on the precipice of being ranked and 3 more will do it for sure.

ESPN's power ranking has us as the #5 team in the conference, which is fair for now IMHO:

Quote:

5. California (3-2, 1-1; No. 7 last week)

Of all the ways for Cal to beat Utah, a final goal-line stand probably wasn’t on anyone’s radar. Even more impressive, Utah ran nearly 100 plays and Cal gave up only 23 points. Consider this: Cal coach Sonny Dykes is now 2-0 against AP Top 25 teams this season after losing 12 straight against ranked opponents to start his head-coaching career. So why isn’t Cal ahead of Utah? Because as solid as this win was, the San Diego State and Arizona State losses look a little worse this week.

For a "power" ranking that seems appropriate since Colorado has only 1 loss at freaking Michigan, Washington is on top of course, Furd has a track record and we are below Utah only because we have 2 losses which keeps us below the rest at the moment.

Ranking will depend on us taking care of business first

But it all depends on who looses and how right ?

Could be 25# after bye week

My point of view: We were better than SDSU but made more mistakes than them. We were pretty even with our next 3 opponents. Texas, ASU, Utah. All four these contests could have gone one way or another depending on a handfull of plays. Ranking wise, Utah is 24, SDSU is 36, ASU is 39 and Cal is 40.

We don't deserve in the top 25. We're probably a little under valued at 40 but not by much.

Actually I thought we/refs kept Utah in the game, so that they got to do their long drive by pounding the rock thing. We go up 21 like we were about to (refs called holding on a critical play), I don't think they know how to get back into the game. We should have beaten them handily, and I think we do most of the time.

Well Utah did have the ball for over 42 minutes versus Cal, under 18 minutes. Hard for me say Cal was much better.

The point is that they can't keep grinding out drives if down 21 points or more. They would have had to pass more, and the complexion of the game would have easily changed to our advantage. Their coach admitted in the interview that they could ill-afford to turn this into a high scoring game because that is not their "M.O.," as he called it. That's why they were happy to be in the game enough to have those long possession drives.

Absolutely if Cal can be ahead 21-0 every game against Utah then it would put a lot pressure on them. Just because it happened in this game that Cal was ahead 14-0 with a chance to go 21-0, doesn't mean it is likely to happen if we play them again. So I guess it's the "we would beat them handily most times" that I have a slight issue with.

If only we had lost to bottom tier SEC teams, then we would certainly be ranked. We have no quality losses yet...

Agreed. No way should be Cal in the top 25 now. Win the next two, and most likely the Bears will deserve to be ranked. (Although it'll depend upon how the ~20 teams ahead of us do over the next three weeks.)

And only 1 quality win. That win over Texas is looking pretty tarnished.

If we had beaten ASU yes, but no... lot of other 2 loss teams out there, many with 'better' losses and generally higher profile.

Doubt OSU gets us there either, but 5-2 probably would.

we are too inconsistent to be ranked.
