getting to OT sure looked tough half way through the 3rd Q

team didn't stop believing and made an incredible come back, and that included the Defense holding OSU to a 3 and out in the last two minutes

with just a few more seconds at the end of the game we could have had one more shot at passing into the end zone for the win in regulation

but OT went horribly wrong starting from the coin toss

good week for a bye since some of our key players are banged up

Yeah I think the team is wiped out needs a break. They looked and played like they needed time off looked ahead to the bye too soon. Who on DL played? No Beq, Zeandae? Rube on the field the whole game. Kunazyk no penalty we might have had time to score 7 in regulation. KM and TW played tough.

We should never have been in the position we got into against this team. Woefully unprepared.

I agree that Cal showed some fight.
OSU got the benefit of a great QB having an off day.
It happens.

Let's suck it up and move on.
Every team left is beatable if we don't beat ourselves first.
Washington is the only exception.

So, chin up.
Cal will play better next game.
I am sure of that.

Yeah! Tonight is not the night to give any glimmer of hope, right? Let's throw in the towel because no reasonable college football team is ever upset. If we can't fire Dykes tonight, we might as well drop down to FCS.

Look, I'm as disappointed as any Cal fan tonight, but the OP has a point. We played well below our capabilities and we almost scratched our way to a win. I don't know the extent of the adjustments that need to be made, but we do have a decent foundation in place.

Yeah, you're right. Losing to the worst team in the Pac-12 shouldn't be alarming at all.

Your right...we did play below our capabilities tonight, just like we did against ASU and SDSU. Let's not make this out to be an issue where this is the only game we were completely unprepared for. There is a systemic issue with Cal football that, for whatever reason, we can't maintain any type of performance consistency. Just look at our record...W-L-W-L-W-L. The only pattern I see so far is we can't seem to win more than one game in a row...even against low end competition. So forgive me about not having a whole lot of hope for the rest of the season.

Why did the clock not stop after OSU's last possession? Rubenzer hit the runner, the runner attempted to stay in bounds, and then fell out of bounds. No idea why the clock didn't stop. That play cost us 35 seconds off the clock and maybe the game.

The ref ruled the runner down in-bounds.

How about move the complaints to the dozens of other hot takes threads and leave one to acknowledge the heart the players showed to take the game to OT? Saying nice things about the team doesn't make your criticism of their performance tonight invalid.

And... I think the players and coaches know they had a bad night. Fans too. We may be drunk but we can still read a scoreboard.

If a foundation was put in place, we wouldn't be losing to a team we were heavily favored to beat. See RighteousGoldenBears response.

By the way, some times it really is that simple. The record speaks for itself.

OSU had the benefit of our QB being injured and our coaching staff failing to adjust for same.

Rarely in the hyper-competitive world of college football. If WSU had fired Leach after one of their two "unforgivable" losses, it would've made things more of a mess. Somebody taking the longview would see how the team reacts, how the season plays out.

There were some bad calls, but that was the worst. The beaver knew immediately that he had screwed up and gone out. Luke pushed him out. Only in some over legislated revisionist alternative frame by frame reality did he not go out of bounds. That call had a BIG impact and just sort of floated by like okay take 25 seconds away from Cal for no reason.

Yeah, Sonny missed that tackle in OT that sent their QB into the end zone. Sonny didn't tackle Ryan Nall all night.

The players didn't make tackles, but the formation and lack of pressure on D did not help them tactically or mentally.

Could the players have called more running plays in the first half? Could the players have subbed out an injured qb? Could the players have stopped calling stupid screen passes?

I was shocked at how flat we looked and how well the Beavers played. I kept hoping our Senior QB could lead us back, and he did , even with a dislocated thumb. Too bad we couldn't steal this game- but the Beavs deserved the win.

However, rumors about our improved defense were false, and to say I'm disappointed would not be descriptive enough of the depth of my despair. I only survived 2013 because I thought it would never happen again, but whoops there it is...

A Tedford moment. Should have taken one more shot with 8 seconds left and no TO's instead of the FG at end of reg.

Edit: QB dislocated thumb explains it.

I hate threads like this. You guys went to Cal and presumably have had at least some success in life. Working your ass off on a project or deal and botching it at the end means nothing.

Not with an injured QB! The game plan was awful but that call was the correct one.

Yah that was bizarre. The people I was watching with at Busby's in LA were talking about the extra minute incident up in Corvallis in 1988. Must have been the same clock operator.
