Has there been any talk of updating Oski and providing him with a more modern look?

I took my girlfriend to the Texas game and she was shocked at how dated he looks. I agreed, time for an update please.

Oasis, this has been discussed many times over the years and I am sorry your girlfriend was shocked. Does it affect your relationship? Oski's appearance scares many people, including my kids when they were younger - like "Who is that?" Or, "Is it a boy or a girl? Which can't be asked anymore. For me, I love this Oski much more than the one I had in the 60s which had a plastic head and regular shoes and no frumpy personality. No, leave him alone - although thanks for giving us something other than the football team to discuss!!

To update Oski in line with current athletic department policy, Oski will sell hugs for $50. High fives cost $20. For $5 he will refrain from slapping your child and threatening to eat them. Otherwise, he makes no public appearances at games unless Cal fans make it rain.

I agree. Let's make him sleek and cool and call him RoboBear or Robo-Oski and he can be unveiled at halftime of the Ole Miss game by being birthed from an oversized inflatable of the current Oski and I don't see how this could go wro...

Those are all great ideas for his "raison d'etre", but the OP was referring specifically to his look, so maybe he sports a beard, skinny jeans and ear buds connected to the latest iPhone or Galaxy, which he is constantly staring into, in order to connect with Cal fans via social media.

agreed. oski needs to be more gender neutral friendly imo. he's the symbol of the patriarchal 20th century america that needs to reflect our changing and diverse student base and culture at UC Berkeley. sign me up.

This ..... and there's precedent; Cal used to have a live bear on the sideline (a cub, I think). Food? That's over on the opposing team's sideline..

Give AD Williams a letter sweater, glasses with a straw and some funny shoes and introduce him as Oski 2.

Oski's fine as he is. In fact, I actually like the older Oski's better. But don't mess with him now. My problem with Oski is he's become kind of boring. Look at the black and white photos. Oski was a character, doing crazy and funny things. Now? He just walks around. Sadly, as much as I hate to say it, the Duck has become what Oski once was.....fun, active, creative.

The only change, appearance-wise, that I might approve of is get rid of the sweat band at basketball games. That looks just stupid.
