I'm guessing it'll be Gilliam unless Barnett transfers in. Garbers might get in the mix too.

Gilliam, Vic, and Garbers should be in mix too. I'd love to see Vic as the short yardage QB. Dude is a beast.

Did we burn his blue shirt when he was in for 3 plays?

No. He's a RS Frosh already.

bowers already used a redshirt. he passed forrest.

the question is next fall will Gilliam, viramontes or garbers pass bowers.

additionally there are other rumors about another possible candidate

Look for someone to pass up Bowers in the spring/ fall. Either a transfer or frosh. The new talent is just a lot better than the recruits from early in Dykes tenure.

As much as this board gripes about a backup getting reps practically NO ONE thinks Bowers will win the job outright come end of Fall camp. So the BS about Bowers not getting reps is Gilmore esque. Ie not very clued in and/or completely dishonest.

We played tons of backups across all positions this year yes mostly out of necessity but true frosh at skill positions leaping upper classmmen.

And as for qbs not being able to play under live fire I will take an uneven year next year for having the right guy in that spot. So far I'd say Dykes batting 1000 on picking qb starters. Previous savior/coach not so much

That is my guess, too: The staff thinks Gilliam has more potential than Forrest or Bowers.

I think the reason we didn't see a back-up this season is because the real heir-apparent (BI BS removed) is Mr. Max Gilliam and he was shirting out the year. I don't see anything about Bowers that makes me want him playing more than Gilliam. But it is a clean slate as Webb leaves and Spavitol begins to make a more solid impact on the QB of the future.

IOW the guy who wins the job is the guy who can run the Spavitol offense. It will be hard to match what Webb did in that offense, making his own decisions on practically every play call. I have never seen a QB at any level, other than Peyton Manning, be a field general like Webb was. We will not be able to fully replace that regardless of who wins the job.

I would say that the next QB can be better than Webb eventually if he learns to use the middle of the field. Webb never really used the middle of the field

I think that's a tTFS, Spavital and spread staple. Avoid the heart of the defense (read: Takk) by attacking the edges. Yes, if we had a chart of all his throws over the season, I bet it would be forest (no pun intended) on the edges and shrubbery down the middle.

Don't sleep on Garbers - he is ripping it up in his senior HS season.

I would be interested to hear from Killa or Berk on the topic of passing down the middle? It did seem that Spavital offense threw less down the middle than TFS. I was at the Oregon State Game and their defense was oriented to covering the outside pass. They also left the run open which we didn't take advantage of until too late.

A QB who could run would also add a whole new dimension. (Not asking for much, ya know, just the next collegiate RG3, that's all.)
