Also heard not too long ago that these were big names, everyone will be excited about the program......just wait.
Well, we're still waiting.....
Hope there is more to this than we've seen so far.
As of now, don't know if I'm even as excited or optomistic as I was when Dykes was hired.

Yep. I remember "let's just say you won't need a google search to recognize these guys." Outside of Wilcox, I've needed google for nearly every one. I'm not that savvy though. Not looking good. They promised to make football great again! Is it possible we've all been duped? Maybe we can make a change in four years.

If you needed to google Greatwood, Baldwin and Marques T don't know what to say. The WR coach is the only anonymous one.

It seems to be with Cal. They better get used to having to deal with buy-outs, its becoming a rather routine contactual provision with college coach contracts and will be at issue when your hiring someone else's coach. These type of provisions have been in the private sector for decades.

That's on you. I have a great life and, as a PAC 12 fan, have known for years about Tui and Greatwood. Baldwin is a bit more of a secret, though as a big time college football fan I've certainly heard of him too.

Huh? Prior to Greatwood/Baldwin signing, when and where would the average Cal fan encountered their names?

I'd say the vast majority of those people know who tui is.

Most know who great greatwood is since he's been at one of our rivals for the past 30 years.

And at the very least, most know of ewu since they've been giving PAC 12 teams nightmares every year for the past 5-6 years and even won a nat title.

I know. I recognize him from his playing days, but the insinuation was that the oc and dc would be household names, not just for people hiking mount rainier.

Cal will have a staff with more Pac-12 experience than any time in recent history, probably all-time. Then you add Baldwin and Edwards who also were recruiting constantly in California and in the Pac-12 footprint.
Contrasting that to Sonny's southern incoming staff is silly. If you have reason to believe that the guys hired can't coach, then make your argument, but in terms of their base of recruiting experience, you could not ask for more.

As I've been saying, stop worrying about insiders and who we don't get. Look at who we do get. Whether you need to google them or not.

Honestly, how many DC and OC candidates do you actually know? How many position coaches? Steve Spurrier is not going to be our OC.

We hired a guy in Greatwood who has put out one of the top units at his position in conference for decades. We hired an OC in Baldwin with HC experience who has a dynamic offense and who has piled up points against Pac12 defenses while using FCS talent. We hired a name QB coach and good recruiter away from a rival. Yeah, the WR coach is unknown, but it is clearly who our OC wanted and the fact he chose one guy to bring along says something

So are you really unhappy about the staff hired so far or are you unhappy that they don't match some image that "insiders" created in your mind.

The candidates always were Baldwin and Tosh/Lake. The assistants under consideration are also well known in football circles, at least West Coast circles. My guess is your knowledge is somewhat limited. For example, if you didn't know who Greatnwood or Tui are AS COACHES, then you don't follow Pac football outside of Cal. Without looking, I bet you can't name more than 3 assistants who didn't coach at Cal in other Pac schools.

I would also say this. People want big names, but they don't want to accept what comes with trying to hire big names. Many of them will say no. Cal could easily fill all the slots tomorrow if they aim low. If people want to trash Cal for not landing big targets they are rumored to be going after, you deliver one message. Don't go after them. Keep expectations low so they can be easily filled. When you set goals high, you sometimes miss.

So far, the hires we have are very good. The funny thing is that the OC hire we got is significantly better than the rumored one some people were hoping for and still people want to grouse.
