What does hottest mean? I swear I avoided that area at all costs only a few years ago
It's called gentrification. During the decade and a half that I lived there, the people living in my apartment building evolved from being really working class folks to tech bros renting places as a crash pad as rental prices soared.
There have been a few murders over the years, and I was robbed by 16-year-olds 10 years ago, but there is a feeling of change.
Again, you're just a few blocks from Rockridge, a few blocks from Temescal, a few blocks from Elmwood, a few blocks from Whole Foods and Berkeley Bowl, a few blocks from Ashby BART, not far from Rockridge BART, walking distance from Downtown Berkeley. It's actually a pretty nice location to live, though they could use more lighting.
The area with the 1.2 million house is particularly nice.
