On a tangential note, one of the great trucker films is Thieves Highway' from 1949, starring Richard Conte (Barzini from The Godfather movie).

It was filmed in and around Oakland and San Francisco.



It was written by A. I. Bezzerides, based on his novel.



Bezzerides, who lived to be 98, is an alum of my favorite university.
