I read in the Chomical about a Weber St. tight end originally from the Bay Area who got turned down from Cal 3 times, once as as a high school senior, then as a transfer at two different schools. I imagine other similar stories from their players.

There is a line on the Cal/Weber State game - it opened at Cal -27 and has since moved to Cal -28!

Yes, this is a undervalued aspect of preparation. How do you keep your team focused and motivated for a home game against a less talented but likely fired-up opponent and likely sparse attendance for a home opener?

Judging on the the play of team last week it's doubtful that this team and coaches will not be ready to play tomorrow. The Bear team I saw last week looked NOTHING like any of the teams during the Dykes era! I fully expect this team to be ready for Weber St and to beat them!

Fun fact, but apropos of nothing: this is not my first Weber St. football game. In November, 1991, I attended the Weber St. v. Nevada game in Reno. The Wolf Pack, led by QB Chris Vargas, came back from a 49-14 deficit in the 3rd quarter to win the game. At the time, it was the largest comeback in college football history. (35 points--now tied with MSU v. Northwestern in 2006.) I was in 6th grade and got a free ticket to the game for wearing my D.A.R.E. t-shirt! Great memory. +1. We are still Cal and our intelligent fans will never be convinced that we're not going to faceplant, but our current coaches haven't gotten that memo.

No idea what happens next week and beyond, but tomorrow, we win and win big.

If I ever got the chance to race Usian Bolt I'm pretty sure I would be about 100 times more motivated than him, but all that motivation wouldn't translate into me running any faster.

Point being, regardless of motivation levels, we should be seeing Chase Forrest for the fourth. I just hope Baldwin and Wilcox give him multiple series of practicing the full offense before initiating the clock-killing vanilla running schemes.

Any school being motivated to perform well against us is an improvement from where we were couple of years ago.
