The Beavers have the most annoying sound that is played over the speakers: The Chainsaw. Boy that annoys the crap out of me.

Cal: The worst. Has basically nothing. It is time we get our **** together and have a consistently annoying third down sound. What are your ideas?

Why?

Fortunately, I have the solution. The original sound clip can be the third down noise and the song can be our new 4th quarter song.

These siren sounds give me the creeps too and could work.

Give the game back to the students and let them do a "Third Down Defense" yell, or something germaine to Cal. We don't need "sound effects". We've had enough of piped in crap.

Let's just have the fans make a heck of a lot of noise. Have the fans Cheer clap and stamp their feet.

Point is other schools have a coordinated 3rd Down ritual. We need it too. Right now it's nothing.

Original and short so it can serve as a signal to fans to make noise (and get on their feet)

Pipe in crowd noise. Have the operator do it subtly so that it's not noticeable--only use it on downs where the crowd is bringing noise anyway, and have it ramp up with the natural crowd noise. This is especially easy to do on 3rd down because there's a very natural rhythm to the crowd on that down. The students do their clapping (usually) while a large portion of the crowd holds its fire until the students are ready. When the students end the clapping and start shouting, the rest of the stadium adds their voices. The effect of the piped-in crowd noise would essentially be to amplify the natural noise, and the volume of the piped-in noise would be done at a level that was proportionate to the crowd's volume level.

What downside to this am I missing?

I like the idea of a scary fog horn sound.......I shiver just to think about it!....I mean that sound is so apropos
for the Cal football program......

I went to this year's game at Autzen (my third time there). For every Cal third down, they played the same song over the speakers. I don't know what it is, but it got the crowd rocking and clapping in time with the music. It was incredibly effective. I said to myself, "Man, I wish we had something like this." Our crowd used to be good, but let's be honest - nearly a decade of bad football and we now collectively suck.

Last Saturday, Cal used the exact same song Oregon used. I think just once, but I could be wrong. The crowd actually got a little louder than normal. I say we just steal the damn thing. It's really effective.

If you want everything piped in for you, then you might as well stay home and watch it on TV (or follow a team like Oregon)

i am not saying it would be good for cal, but one of best sounds i've heard at a game that matched the team was the shark's jaws theme
