How long do you want to ignore this user?

Is anyone else getting barraged with phone calls, email, snail mail ... all saying that the world will end if I don't contact them and verify that my information is correct with regards to some alumni data?

I'm assuming this is a sales attempt of some sort. This has been going on for months -- they're certainly persistent. What are they selling?

Yes, i've gotten numerous postcards and annoying emails and probably phone calls (i don't answer calls from numbers i don't recognize).
I don't see the point in calling in giving them any more info than they already have or answering their pleas. I already get plenty of mailings from Cal, and I already give money every year. And will continue to give every year.
I don't care if i'm in any kind of directory, so i don't see any benefit to calling. If they want me to update or something, they should make it possible for me to do so online, and not have to call.

I don't want to do anything that will result in my info being further passed along to anyone they might have deals with. I don't like that they're spending postage and effort to do this. But I guess they are making money off of it somehow.

I just gave them my Social Security Number, my PIN #, my passwords for my brokerage account so they can do trades, and all my bank account numbers and balances.

They could have the sender be "Cal Bears" or something, not some unusual name.

My name is really Okaydo Rodgers-Goff, by the way. Clothilde Hewlett can verify that it's true. It's purely a coincidence that my mom and dad share the names with Cal's two greatest QBs of this century.

Indeed. I assume an accurate data base of contact info for all Cal alums would be worth a pretty penny. Plus, if you reply when they ask for the info, that's one more time that they can hit you up.

I suspect what they really want is to sell you a directory.

I don't think that's physically possible. Between the AD, Engineering, Alumni....it feels like there's something in the mailbox every goddam day.

Exactly. I'm just ignoring the mailings and e-mails and don't answer their calls.

This paperbound directory makes NO sense at all considering the cal.berkeley.edu directory already exists.

CAA is desperate. They are likely to go bankrupt within 2 years (which would be a good thing, because then alumni relations could revert back to the campus, like in almost every other university).

They take down your contact information and then spend the next 10 minutes (assuming you don't hang up before then) trying to sell you an overpriced directory of Cal alumni. There may be a tote bag involved.

A tote bag!! Hell, why didn't they say so??? This changes *everything*!

I get the phone calls and it's nice they hire Cal students but it's also kind of funny how they try and smooze you, and cozy up a bit. Like asking if you have career advice, etc., a little minor buttering up. I told one nice young lady that if I had any advice, it's not likely relevant any longer so don't worry, you'll be fine. I know, it was a butter up question but there was a long pause after that.

I find it bizarre that they are calling, mailing, and emailing me to verify my contact information. Anyone else see the rediculousness?
