He is the COO of the AD at Cal today. Thoughts?

1) He's going home, good for him
2) He's been involved in some big recent football initiatives
3) The leadership we seek at AD is very obviously not already in-house, so onwards we go.

Expect the new AD will want his or her own top people. OTOH, there is an expectation that the new AD should be able to retain good staff, especially on the development side. The massive turnover in staff that occurred under the last two ADs will not be acceptable to the Chancellor.

Not bueno. He's the guy making all of the financial decisions for football at the moment. He's the one leading the initiative on increasing the assistant pay pool. This is not good

Agree, this is not good news for us, but I am happy for him. He is one of the good ones.

Multiple sources saying he is gone. Bummer.

Hey played ball at Houston and he's getting a promotion. This is all part of the game.

Don't begrudge him taking the job at all and am happy for him. Just not good for us given our lack of anything resembling continuity in development.

That's very fair. And obviously the budget increase is paramount. But, correct me if I'm wrong, we seem to be mostly out of the woods there. Let's just make sure it happens.

As for development, I hope the new AD can rebuild it from top to bottom. Whatever we were doing before, it wasn't working. Both in terms of results and turnover.

I agree with this. Perhaps this is a sign that an AD hire is in the works?

I believe your concern is shared at the highest level, especially on turnover.

The guy got an offer he couldn't refuse, and he doesn't know who is new boss will be. Can't blame him for jumping.

Hopefully by now Chancellor Christ has a very short list of who she wants. Time to get the new AD on board.

Sad to see Pezman leave Cal but this is a great opportunity for him.

agree with sebastabear.

other GREAT thing about Chris is he had a "get it done" mentality. I remember presenting him with an idea that i had been trying to get done for a while... thinking i'd hear more of the same, instead his reply was "yeah, we can get that done..." And then to my delight, within the month, it was done. That is a rare, very rare, trait in this athletic department.
