Thanks for all the helpful insights about Berkeley and Cal game day.
I'm flying from ATL and staying in downtown SF for the long weekend. Taking the BART to downtown Berkeley on Sat morning and will try and fit in as many experiences as possible. The UNC booster group, Ram's Club. Is sponsoring a pre game lunch at Cornerstone. I look forward to visiting that venue and trying the local brews?

Any recs on where to purchase authentic Cal gear/souvenirs?
Any local beer recs (I like all kinds).

Thanks and I look fo my visit.

Cornerstone will have a solid selection. Good choice for visiting school too, large and not frequented by Cal fans as much on game day.

Berkeley has a few taprooms:
Pacific Standard downtown next to BART
Fieldwork Brewing on the West Side
Rare Barrel on the West Side, only sour beer
Hoi Polloi Brewing in the South Side
Gilman Brewing on the West Side
Sierra Nevada Toroedo Tap Room on the West Side

Thanks. I love me some Anchor Steam and had no idea it has a brewery in downtown SF. I'm going to try and fit that in.
Well - not quite downtown, but close enough.

Agree with AunBear89, a visit to the Anchor Steam Brewery is well worth it. 1705 Mariposa Street at De Haro in the Potrero Hill area, which is not too far from the Financial District in SF. Enjoy!

God I love Anchor Steam. My favorite beer still to this day.

Had a keg of it at my wedding reception. Have "wet the baby's head" with it for both my kids and a couple of nieces and nephews. Fritz Maytag is one of the few 'furds that I'll tolerate.

Beware, you won't be able to take BART directly from SF to Berkeley that weekend, due to planned track work. You will need to take the free bus bridge from West Oakland to 19th Street station.

I might be too late here, but if you want a truly 'Berkeley' experience, I suggest checking out people park pregame. Bring a couple of steel reserves to chug, and buy some Ritalin off the sketchy kids with tattooed faces sprawled across the sidewalks - the game becomes that much more interesting.
