We heard positive reviews about some t shirt cannons
Didn't see cannons. Saw people throwing t-shirts...
I think the student section tried to start a "Hey alumni! Go!..." cheer. I'm not sure because they were doing it during a commercial time-out with music blaring over the PA.
The fact that they would start a cheer during a commercial indicates the mic-man has no feel for the role of cheering in the flow of the game.
The fact that they would start a cheer while the PA is blaring indicates that his ears are not connected to his brain.
That was the first game for the two new mic men. Maybe cut them just a little slack. I think both of the new guys have tremendous potential. I'm encouraged.
I think athletics has made tremendous progress in game day experience. It's not perfect but it's massively better than it used to be. The band plays WAY more. There are far fewer commecials blaring. There is far less music playing. Sitting in the student section my fellow undergrads actually commented it was nice to be able to talk with each other. See, millenials and Gen Zs, don't need to be non-stop bombarded. I also love when the band plays the first couple bars of Big C each time the offense takes the field after a change of possession. Doing that right out of commercial break is brilliant, so people watching can hear. And it's a GREAT way to associate the one and only Big C with us, not not with that hollywoodized version used by UC San Diego... I'm sorry, I am mean UC Los Angeles (they're all sort of the same to me).
I think if the AD continues with this they will start getting people coming back in for "the experience." This is one of those things where you don't see the fruits of your efforts right away (because you're eliminating a negative < what was awful fan experience > that's just harder to notice), but awareness of it will build over time, and the increased enjoyment will then reinforce people's decision to go to games.
I think it's important people acknolwedge the positive changes. As in any organziation, if all people do is complain even when the department is implementing changes fans want, there will be a tendency to say "we can't make them happy so screw it, we'll just do what we were doing."
GO BEARS!
