It's kind of amazing how Berkeley and UC Berkeley are connected to the big screen this year.
To recap:
--Black Panther director Ryan Coogler went to high school in Berkeley and grew up two miles down Telegraph Avenue (and caught five balls in the 2005 Sacramento State vs Cal game at Memorial Stadium.)
--Sorry to Bother You, from Oakland's Boots Riley, was partially shot at UC Berkeley.
--Blindspotting was written and starring Berkeley High alums Rafael Casal and Daveed Diggs, whose mom ran the social welfare programming at UC Berkeley.
--Cary ***unaga, who won an Emmy directing True Detective, grew up around Berkeley and his dad worked at UC Berkeley.
He's the first American to direct a James Bond film.
Also, the first University of California system alum to direct a James Bond film.
