I would strongly recommend you stop using Stubhub and use the ticket exchange on Bearinsider or another website. I have been selling tickets all season on Stubhub and have been charged 10% all season. I just concluded a sell of Colorado football tickets and was charged 15% without any notification whatsoever. When I spoke with Stubhub, they mentioned they wanted to increase their profitability and confirmed that they provided no notification of their rate increase other than I should have picked up their hidden increase to 15% by reviewing the net sales proceeds on their hypothetical ticket sale calculator. After getting reviewed by customer service, I was told they would not honor the previous 10% charge and would not issue a credit. Their FAQ discussion on fees is now vague and doesn't detail their 15% charge, too. I will bring this up to our A.D. when I speak with him next week. I am hoping CAL and other schools can find a way to resale our tickets without dealing with scumbags.

Perhaps consider sharing images of email/message exchanges if you think it would help

Oh no doubt they are sleazy. When they suddenly switched from showing prices with fees included to showing prices before fees (by default), it caught people off-guard. The dumb thing about doing it this way is that it's much more obvious with each transaction the jaw-dropping amount they charge in fees for each ticket.

But their brand name is simply too strong, and the instant download too convenient and guarantee too reassuring to defeat. There may be competitors with equal convenience and service, but not enough brand-awareness to compete.

"Brand name is simply too strong..." sounds like large company CEO speak. All it will take is another ticket exchange app that is easy and cheap. And I'm an old guy. If I can figure out how to get cable and AT&T (DirecTV) replaced by YouTube and T-Mobile I can figure out how to get tickets with something cheaper than StubHub.

I appreciate the frustration. Seriously. But I also feel for our AD - I suspect he's got more pressing matters than soloving a resale vendor issue for people who aren't attending our games, all to help them avoid an extra 5% charge.

The ticket exchange is probably hardly read by anyone. A strong link on the front page is necessary.

Stub hub is also charging buyers as much as 30% based on demand, buying close to event and dynamic pricing.

Have they increases the buyer fees?

You coild also use ebay. Not dure what their fees are.

Fans have been begging for A Cal sponsored ticket selling place. I think Stub Hub gives Cal a part of the fees when a transaction takes place. Lets get Knowlton be innovative and start our own market place.

It's definitely something the AD needs to be aware of. Stubhub is not just a resale vendor - The Cal Athletic Department has contracts with StubHub that makes them the official marketplace and the only re-seller that has integrated barcode swapping with our internal ticket system. That is with 2-3 clicks, one can list season tickets on StubHub and there is no worry about meet up exchanges or flakes, etc.

With the variable game times and late announcements it's a efficient way (time wise) to sell or BUY tickets. The fees are approaching 35-40% now I believe. This has grown from 25% just a few years ago. Buying season tickets is a binary event essentially - yes or no. But this really could lead to a drop in season ticket holders. Not alone, but in combination with other factors.

All StubHub does is reissue barcodes, so it's not like they can't be replaced. The AD should absolutely look at other options to see if they are cheaper. I know Colorado uses vivid seats. Other teams use Ticketmaster.

My personal wish is that there could be a donor only ticket exchange - could offer the same barcode reissue technology but set up so that only Cal donors can buy. Not required, but just an option.

Hoards of people have cancelled season tickets due to issues with not going to all games, and now we have no more donation tax exemptions. The AD having a ticket exchange that is fair and easy to use is really a service to season ticket holders.

I'll also say this: I love these night games! I've sat in some great locations for pretty cheap buying on StubHub the night before or morning of these games.

For Cal's sake, I wish tickets sold for a lot more on the secondary market. That means demand is there. But demand is not there generally.

The fees in general are getting out of hand.

What is the best online ticket place these days with low fees?

Seat Geek? Gametime? Vivid?

Not sure. A lot of sites are even less transparent than StubHub. As in you have to get to the checkout window to see fees. Seat Geek aggregates a lot of other ticket sites, has cheaper fees as far as I can tell, but doesn't have a great selection due to stubhub being integrated into Cal's barcode system.

I did a perusal of Cal v CU tickets on StubHub now. The buyer fees appear to scale with ticket price. For a 15 dollar ticket( that gets you a bench back by the way), I'm seeing around 40% in fees. For a $100+ ticket, I see around 25%. That's only the buyer fees, on the seller side of it's it's an extra 15%, that over 50% total. For the minumum $6 tickets, they want $9.94 each. If the seller gets $5.10, that's a 95% fee on top.

For the cheap tickets, the rate really doesn't matter much, sure. But getting into $50-100 tickets, if it's pushing 40% that's a huge transaction cost.

Too bad Craigslist has gone down the crapper. Use to buy/sell plenty of tickets on CL, 80% related to Cal. Never scammed, usually bought/sold in person. In person is a hassle but with cash or tickets in hand, very low scam rates. Also who the heck hordes Cal tickets? Seems like it's been 3 years since CL was any good.

Frankly I'm amazed no one has developed an app to sell tickets, sort of like depositing a check to the bank, i.e., scan or take photo, send to 3rd party verification, etc. Never was a fan of stubhub. The sticker shock is real.

I still use CL. Its not as convenient but both the sellers and I make/save more money. Never been scammed by a Cal fan.

I'll have to give CL a try again, at least for Cal tickets.

I guess I'm down on CL because after looking for a car on it, I started to get spam call on the mobile. The lesson of course is don't use your main mobile device and only send ph# after email contact. Generally speaking if you see a deal too good to be true, they're just trying to collect phone numbers.

Stubhub fees are ****ing outrageous. It ends up being like 27%.

As long as this is true, Stubhub will obviously dominate the aftermarket for Cal tickets. Convenience for the seller and buyer is why people are willing to pay these fees.

As an aside, I noticed that when you buy Cal tickets on Stubhub, you get a PDF that looks like a ticket with a barcode, and they tell you to print it out. But when you buy a Stanford ticket on Stubhub, you get a QR code and they tell you do not print it out, just scan it using your phone. Now I suspect the scanners at Cal can read the barcode from the phone, but I've never taken that chance, I always print the ticket to make sure. I would rather do like Stanford with the QR code and instruction to scan it with your phone.

The NFL uses Ticketmaster as their official exchange. Someone else can figure out if their fees are better for sellers and/or buyers:

Got scammed on CL for the Lakers v. Dubs game in Vegas in October. Should have known that $50 seats even in the upper deck was too good of a deal for that game. Venmo was the vehicle that the scammer used. Got me to send to his account, then he/she closed the account. Venmo disclaimed any liability because they make no assurances about the goods exchanged itself. Never using Venmo again. Will stick to PayPal.

PayPal owns Venmo so I'm not sure that's going to help you.

As for Stubhub, their fees suck. It's owned by eBay now but it was founded by furds. The Warriors use Ticketmaster and I'm told that the fees on the seller side there are better. I don't know who Cal uses to directly sell tickets as I imagine Ticketmaster would need to be used for both.

I do use Stubhub despite all that (except for Warrior games). They have better scale than their competitors so there's more ticket options and I can choose to see the prices with fees (doesn't seem to be an option with others). Would be great to have a better option but my guess is if a competitor came along and got Stubhub-like market share they'd eventually crank up their fees too.

Sold a car on Craigs list recently but I was very careful. No scam calls but car was very old and not worth much.

Not any other option I could find. Tried many. Car too many miles and 2000

Ticketmaster is 25% total. They also play games distributing it between buyer and seller. Anyone who doesn't show a proper price is sleazy in my book. Stubhub was 25% up until a few years ago, long after eBay bought them.

A lot of NFL teams are moving to a no paper ticket strategy using ticketmaster. You just get a QA code on your phone. Kind of annoying having to pull out the phone so much, but ushers seem to let more slide now. It's pretty easy to take a quick screenshot and text a friend the pic of their ticket. It completely gimps the in person scalper market - who's going to trust a dude on a corner texting you a ticket?

Ticketmaster NFL ticket exchange also guarantees a season ticket holder that a buyer acting up will not cost someone their season tickets. So there is a lot of reasons they could jack fees up if they take more market share from StubHub.

I'm honestly surprised that Cal's EECS department hasn't figured out an in-house ticket sale and re-sale system. It would seem like a good project for a class to work on, or maybe for a grad student.

Stubhub sucks.

Bought Rams tickets on my Mac at home a few months ago, printed them out. Come to find out the RFQ code is not accepted at the stadium and was told to order tickets on your mobile only as only a mobile electronic RFQ code works. We got in but it was a hassle. They should not be selling NFL tickets without letting people know on their site to not order NFL tickets on your desktop.

They sold me a parking ticket for $90. I get to the lot and it was only $10. Shame on me but come one now.

Never again.

yep, a free service on calbears, replacement tickets print-at-home style. money exchange left to buyer-sellers. explained here:

original owner just needs to know buyer's name (or alias?) and their email address, to get the ball rolling.
