How much influence does Marques Tuiasosopo have in recruiting QB's?

Is he out on the road, at 7-on-7 drills in the summer, at Friday night football games, in living rooms? Does he favor RPO QB's like McIlwain over pocket passers like Garbers? Can he coach both?

We need to get the ball downfield, accurately and without picks, and run only on third downs to get a critical first down. If McIlwain proved anything to us, it's that he cannot do that. I would move him to slot receiver. Bowers could not do it either but I would hope he stays, strives to improve, gets another chance, and get his degree at Cal. (The Chase Forest model).

Devon Modster is a Hail Mary. He got beat out by both Wilson Speights and Dorian Thompson-Robinson because of his decision-making and inaccurate passing. (Similarly notice RPO QB Kahlil Tate cost U of A the game against ASU).

I think we still need an NFL-bound QB who threads the needle. (And get him some wide receivers who can go get it and OL hat can block).

Isn't there speculation on other threads that Modster got passed up not because he doesn't have the goods, but because Chip played favorites? He may not end up being a diamond in the rough, but I hope it's not a Hail Mary and that we're still at square zero on offense.

64% completion percentage, 8.5 yards per attempt.

Well, it's not as if either guy lit up the stats. Perhaps Modster wouldn't have either minus UCLA's 2017 talent, but he's not a Hail Mary. That said, he's not a budding Heisman candidate either.

There are some astoundingly bad takes here. They resemble another thread with astoundingly bad takes. Then I checked the OP of the threads, and sure enough...

I had the same reaction, but I think he must have meant the QB should only run on 3rd downs. I think he longs for the days of Y.A. Tittle

That makes more sense.

Someone needs to watch a little NFL football - not to mention virtually every top 20 team in college. There are only a select few successful "pure-pocket" passers who only run on third down (Brady, Goff, Rivers) and the league is quickly converting to a mobile QB model. A mobile QB, who can pass, is just so much harder to defend than a one-dimensional quarterback of yesteryear.

I would wager that we may have seen the last of the immobile, pocket passers taken in the first round of the NFL draft (Rosen will probably be the last imo). With the exception of Goff, all the other young, successful QB's in the NFL can, and will, take off on any down. Escape-ability is hard to defend, and is the future.

Guys who are good in the pocket, accurate with the ball, and don't scramble much will never go out of style. There just aren't enough good throwers to fill up 32 starting jobs.

On the other hand, throwing the ball down field accurately, without turnovers, thrown by an NFL bound QB with excellent WRs and stout blocking are all, uh, accurate statements on how to have a successful offense - the football playoffs are littered with offenses that have discovered this secret combination...
