Poor parents, I understand they transferred to be next to their son. Total parent devotion to their son.

He's a grad transfer right? So they'll get to see him walk.

Well, his mother is now the gymnastics coach at SJSU (previously held same position at UW), so wonder if that's an option. Sjsu was 1-11 so I can't imagine any incumbant is locked into starting.

Would be kinda weird though.

Sac State - Troy Taylor will turn him into the second coming of Carson Wentz. He will win the Walter Payton Award and this website will explode in a manner similar to Bikini Atoll for multiple reasons.....

Second-coming of Carson Wentz? By that, do you mean he'll look impressive, but rarely complete a season due to injury?

" can't imagine any incumbant is locked into starting"

In brief, the facts....in as far as I can put together....agree with you.

Also, the QB situation at San Jose State MAY have too much of a "soap opera" vibe.

These two articles only tell part of the story

herehttps://www.reviewjournal.com/sports/unlv/unlv-football/unlv-faces-a-survivor-in-san-jose-state-qb-josh-love/

http://www.spokesman.com/stories/2018/sep/03/san-jose-state-still-shuffling-between-quarterback/

Spartan fans thought Carrillo had a decent arm but was smallish, fumble-prone and not very fast.
He's not going to be back in any case. Hope he graduates and does well.

In addition, two freshman QBs...virtually left before they got there. Some of that seems to be a mystery
to Spartan fans.

In addition, there is the more than somewhat slippery aspect to the grad transfer rule(s)....
that the school being transferred into shall have an academic "program" not available at the previous institution
....CAL in this case.

Could San Jose State and/or Sac. State have such a program? I've been looking at this issue for about a year and I would venture to say...."Yeah, sure, of course.....they may be working on it."

Good luck to Bowers....he deserves it.

Not a bad guess. But what about Fresno State? Seems like a fit both geographically and on the field. Not to mention the conflagration on Growls which would be an added bonus.

My speculation is that he ends up in the Pac12 somewhere. He has demonstrated he can compete in the Pac12.

As to the new school having a graduate program not available at Cal - I don't think that will be a problem given it seems the grad transfers IN to Cal all go into one program (correct?). The term "available" likely means that they will be accepted into it.

Hard to understand he is a grad transfer. Most of this groups 5 year seniors got done in 4-4.5 years. Bowers would be done in 3.5 years? I guess it's possible....

By the end of Spring he will have been at Cal 4 full years:
2015
2016
2017
2018

I'd guess Bowers lands at a Mountain West school. Perhaps where his mom has landed, at SJSU.

Sure, he can compete to be a starter in the Pac 12, but I'm guessing most programs in this conference would aspire to have someone better and he probably doesn't want to sit during his last season. He's probably looking at a program that can sort of guarantee him the starting job.

Wishing him the best, in any event.

There was one Tedford era QBs who transfers to SJSU and did okay.

Nice write up about Kyle Reed. He did well at SJSU and graduated. Gotta love he took it to Furd.

Quote:

Reed was a record-setting passer for the Spartans. At one stage of 2008, he was the nation's most accurate quarterback completing more than 75 percent of his passes. In the 2008 game at Stanford, he set the Spartans' single-game record for passing accuracy completing 22-of-25 attempts.

It's possible, but I doubt he thinks so lowly of his abilities that he has to transfer to SJSU, esp. when he started every game at a P5 school last year. I mean what does his mom being there have to do with anything? It's not like he has to be at his next destination forever. Good luck to Ross. We may never get the story of what really happened in 2018, but I appreciated how hard he worked last year. He led by example in 2017.

#2 QB prospect in the West behind Mark Sanchez, Elite 11. Huge recruiting win for Cal in 2004. Strong, accurate thrower, good size and mobility. Sat on the bench 2005, 2006 and 2007 behind Longshore,(even with fractured ankle), Ayoob, Levy and then Riley...

He should transfer to Fresno State. Tedford will turn him into an all-conference player thereby making the Cal coaches look like fools.

Bowers should transfer to Washington State, grow a mustache, become an All-Pac Twelve QB, Heisman Candidate, and get drafted by the 49ers where we can watch him play for the next 10 years.

Fall 2018 was in fact his 8th semester at Cal. Grad transfer seems relatively easy in Bowers case. If he's not finished now, he has spring and even summer too.

Eh, I think Summer school makes up for the short unit load they take in season.
