Herbert announced today that he will not put his name into consideration for the 2019 NFL draft.

Respect his decision but was hoping he'd leave. UO will be a contender next year :-(

He is very academically focused (like Mariota in that respect) and by staying, not only will he finish his degree he'll also get to play with his brother who is coming in as a TE next Fall. Totally expected by Oregon that he'd return.

Good for Oregon. Bad for everyone else, probably including Herbert. If you're going in the first round, just go, and get your degree later...

One day Cal will offer enough to justify coming back for another year. Until then, we should be happy for our conference foes who already do ... ultimately strengthens the talent level and profile of the pac-12.

Can't think of a case where an undisputed 1st round draft pick chose to return to cal.

Too bad he won't face us in the pac12 Championship game.

Herbert has the measurables but is not a winner. 10-10 in Pac-12 games as Oregon's starting QB. Terrible on the road.

I think his overall record is very misleading. Had to play as a freshman on a horrible team. Hard to blame him for that. It's a team game. I mean you could make the same argument about Goff. Not only does Herbert have the best measurables, his stats are pretty good as well. He needs to get a little more consistent but his potential is off the charts. Think of a more athletic Ben Rothlisberger.

Agree with this. There is to much Oregon hate coloring folks opinions here. If he was @ Cal and returning for his senior year for the same reasons, people would be falling all over themselves to talk about his love for his alma mater and family. What a student. etc etc.

Just know that he's a great kid like Mariota was and forget he's a Duck. some can't see it otherwise.

I mean, if Goff had stayed I would be happy as a Cal fan...but it would still be a really stupid decision. Take the money, you can always come back and finish your degree.

That's your opinion and its not your decision. Calling it stupid only reflects on you.

Actually, it would have been a stupid decision had he been selected by Buffalo.

Happy New Year, Petaluma!

Who knows where Goff ends up if he had stayed another year. I just don't think I would ever call the decision stupid. It's a personal decision. I can understand Herbert's line of thinking. He grew in Eugene, within walking distance of the stadium, has deep roots with the community and the school. He loves Oregon like we love Cal. Not every player has that kind of connection. We've had players transfer to rivals. That's unthinkable. Herbert's going to make a lot of money either way.
