One thing is for sure... Just swapping QB doesn't help.

We tried 4 quarterbacks this year...

All had similar failure. It turns out depth chart has some meaning.

Maybe we should look at some of the constants that endured after all of those changes

Or, if they're all equally bad, maybe the depth chart has no meaning.

well, they weren't.

They were remarkable in their drop off from one to the next.

I'm sure Baldwin and Tui can make ARod and Goff look just as bad. All of a sudden they'll start drifting 20 yards back in the pocket. And throwing straight to defenders.

Right up until the end, there were people who wanted to put in Mcilwain, despite having seen his play earlier in the year. By the end, everyone was playing like McIlwain.

Man's got to know his limitations.

I'd pull Garbers out for a couple series for him to get settled down, before putting him back in again. If we just stick with running plays between Garbers and Brown, throwing in a few high percentage short passes, we would have won this game. I blame this on our coaching staff, all of them.

Pawlawski pointed out that on at least Two interceptions the QB deliberately ignored the short receiver and tried to hit the long receiver by forcing the ball into double coverage.
That sounds to me that the play called was not a bad call and would have worked but the QB made the wrong decision.

Um, maybe. But then how do you allow a Senior to make the exact same "delibrate " mistake twice? Insubordination? Point Shaving? Or so woefully unprepared he doesn't know any better after being instructed on his mistake that he loses his mind and repeats the same error?

You've had two years with these guys. You know what their weaknesses are. Including their decision making. You don't give them plays that lead to bad decisions. It's the same as saying a run to the outside would have been a good call if your 235 pound running back could have beat the defense to the corner or the inside run would have worked if the 170 pound scat back broke a tackle. You have to call plays for your guys' abilities.

One thing we learned today, the only thing stopping Garbers from making the same numbers of mistakes as McIlwain is that Baldwin was not giving him the opportunity. Honestly, it's a silver lining. Now we know.

Cal will not improve until we upgrade both the offensive staff and the QB. It's not an either/or. We have gone out and gotten a new QB. Hopefully he'll improve the position. Now we need to upgrade the offensive coaching.
