Like all here, I'm certainly no Husky fan. At the same time, I am generally a PAC fan. That means I would route for PAC teams most of the time as long as it doesn't hurt Cal (well, unless it were those guys across the Bay). In this case, I don't think that by winning the Rose Bowl UW would gain any more recruiting prowess against us than they already have.

Chaka Khan was the Rose Bowl Grand Marshall? Was Dexy's Midnight Runners unavailable? Yikes. As a Pasadenan who grew up camping out on the parade route every year when I was growing up, i think they can do a smidge better. That's just plain awful.

As for the game, tOSU will roll.

So you guys are saying that it is simply about hatred for the pups, or that them losing might help our recruiting against them? I would think that conference recognition would be important too. And, we did beat those guys this year. I'm not just being obtuse. Serious question.

For the game: pulling of the Pac12 and the Husky...and you know the story...Cal kicked canine butt this season.

Fair enough...then it's likely the token old person pick, to get the old people off their back...or an uber music hipster. Like a lot of generational change (which there's a lot of right now), it'll be a mixed bag during the transition.

Grand Marshall selections are goofy. Half the time the reaction is like...who? why? Does Chaka have a connection to the Tournament of Roses, or Pasadena?

Mom and Dad could still have dropped some coin but I think it's just the Rose Parade. Frankly I was surprised by her being the first Jewish Rose queen, figured that was done long ago given every other barrier (minus LGBTQ) was been broken regarding race or ethnicity. Rose Parade has usually been ahead of the curve on that, gets California. Good for them...LGBTQ beauty queen...earth did not explode, end days not happening.

Who cares about her bonafides, but I sure hope she did her Princees time at Pasadena City, or heaven forbid, has that been tossed out with the tiara

I've never understood this logic. I need to see more data. Conventional thought is that what is good for the Pac 12 is good for Cal. As a recruit, if Stanford, Utah, Wash St, and UW get pounded in bowls ...and all else being equal...I get an offer to the Mountain West I may reconsider. Kids want to play against the best to keep the dream alive.

But, as we all know, music tastes are subjective. And as a 10-time Grammy winner who has sold 70 million albums, she seems like she's more than accomplished to be grand marshal. But I wouldn't be upset if the "accomplished" Justin Bieber was grand marshal.

Here are past grand marshals. I don't see her being really that out of the norm.

Hey if Gary Sinise can be grand marshall...Chaka Kahn can be. 70 mil records is something but music tastes is now more controversial than talking religion, way higher chance to offend. Any way, seems the picks are about a certain age. Few or no youngsters on the list.

It's hard for the P12 to slip even further towards irrelevance than it already is. UW is getting blown out now. Utah got beat late. Our game was regarded as bad and error prone. Oregon won a yawner of a game. P12 hasn't been in the CFP equation.

If anything - a Husky loss makes us and the conference look weaker still. Not a good view from the nation.

Hey we should have known the day wouldn't bode well for the west coast when that float caught on fire and blocked the rest of the parade. Weird end to the parade.
