Despite some Cal fans having an issue with Papa's accent that they think makes him pronounce Cal as Kale, he is an excellent football play by play guy and blows the doors off Robinson. ...and if the Niners continue to suck a team couldn't have a better cheerleader and spinmeister than Greg. He had you believing the Raiders had a chance to win even when they were down three scores with 2 minutes left in the game. My only issue with him is that I think he goes out of his way to find weaknesses in Goff to shore up his initial prediction that Jared would be a bust. I would also like to see Greg replace that sack of Notre Dame turd on the Warriors TV broadcasts with Jim Barnett.

Papa was also a much better play-by-play man for the Warriors than Bob Fitzgerald.

I saw that Ted Robinson had been canned, but didn't click through.

I liked Papa with the A's actually. Accent was weird, but distinctive and not super distracting. That's for TV though with not as much talk time needed.

Raiders completely took advantage of Oakland fans this year - jacked up prices (think that happened in 2017 actually) and traded away key players to tank and stockpile for LV.

It's time for them to GTFO. Though if Mark Davis wants to crawl back to the city and play in the coliseum in 2019 for lack of a better location, the $7.5 million rent will be welcome I'd think.

And his ratings at knbr are pathetic. Papa destroys him.

Maybe now papa can finally get his revenge on Fitzgerald. Now that he's doing niners games, KNBR can hire him away from 95.7 and he replaces Fitzgerald on KNBR and as the voice of the warriors on tv. One can only dream.

We don't just think it--he does, in fact, pronounce Cal as Kale. And it seems so curable once it was pointed out to him. I'm pretty sure he didn't refer to the former owner of Da Raidas as Ale Davis.

I heard him go off recently on the city of Oakland for daring to sue the Raiders, saying the city was betraying "all of" its citizens who are "all" die-hard Raider fans. "What could they possibly think they could gain by such a thing?" (Uh, Greg, how about $80 million??)

Greg Papa lost his Raiders job because li'l Mark Davis never forgave Papa for saying that Mark "betrayed" Al by interviewing Mike Shanahan, the former Raiders coach whom Al despised.

Papa's new job is working for the team coached by... Mike Shanahan's son, Kyle.

Those will be some interesting postgame chats between Greg and Kyle...

Who is Bob Fitzgerald? I only know BLOB Fitzgerald.

Doesn't know much about Niner history. He told his radio that the best pro running backs in Bay Area history were Marcus Allen and Roger Craig. The best RBs in Bay Area history were Joe Perry and Hugh McElhenny. No one even remotely close.

And Starkey still voices Cal FB.... sigh.

Probably the only 'announcer' who would come up with these names is the Cupper. And he just retired. I'm 59, born and raised in SF, went to games at Kezar as a kid and even I wouldn't throw out these names if asked who the best pro RBs were in the Bay area.

KNBR massively sucks. A bunch of massive egos too comfortable in their jobs and too happy with the sound of their own voices to actually prepare and become knowledgeable about any issues. That and you better not criticize the Giants and you better keep talk about anyone other than Giants /49ers/Warriors to a bare minimum. 95.7 is much better if you want anything knowledgeable and anything not basically acting as a marketing arm for the teams on their station.

Ollie was great but didn't player for either the Niners or Raiders. If he had both Perry and McRlhenney were better.
Perry was 9.5 hundred dash fast. McElhenny, was the best open field breakaway runner ever. More elusive and faster than Sayers. Tan a 9.7 hunndred. Even more impressive a national hs mark of 18.5 in the 180 low hurdles.
In his prime, you had to see him to blelieve him. Watch his high lights on Youtube.

well put and as an oakland resident and taxpayer the sooner they put this deal behind them the better. I like Papa but yeah, his blind loyalty to Al is sad, unbecoming and betrays his deep knowledge in other aspects of sport. When he did that deal with the Niners earlier I saw the writing in the wall. What is concerning is how all of the other guys on 95.7 and in the media kiss his a** as if he were some sort of God. A little bit of humility on his part would go a long way.
