I was reading the IMDb bio of Gregory Scott Cummins that plays Detective Moore (nickname Crate) on the TV series Bosch and stumbled across this:
"Greg grew up in Orinda, CA...Greg took drama classes as an undergrad while attending Cal-Berkeley (where he eventually received his B.A. in Theatre Arts) and the University of Hawaii. At both Universities Greg was also on a football scholarship as the starting punter for California (U.C. Berkeley, (1974 & 1975 seasons) and the University of Hawaii, (1977 & 1978 seasons) leading the nation in multiple punting categories in his final two years at U. of Hawaii. Greg then turned down a contract to play for the NFL'S Green Bay Packers and signed the following year with The San Diego Chargers where he was released due to injury."

This is what he looks like now on the show (on the left):

Here he is during his playing days in Hawaii:

Maybe some people who post here knew him.

I don't know him, but I watch the show. He and his partner have a significant story line in the most recent season about whether they're getting too old for the job.

BTW, for people who are unfamiliar with Bosch or Michael Connelly's books, the sh0w and the Bossch book series are excellent.

Thank you for that link and story. Wow! I was introduced to Joe during Spring Quarter '76 after Sunday Mass at Newman Hall. I think Joe lived in the apartment building adjacent to Newman's parking lot. Joe was the BMOC yet he seemed like a quiet and gentle person. I was honored to have met him.

that was such a cool story for those at Cal during that tine period. I guess the one thing everyone rememberers is where they were when they heard Joe had passed.

Some books moreso than others, but generally speaking, yes. This latest season is going a bit slowly and focusing a bit too much on a side story from one of the books in my opinion, but perhaps it will end well.

Note: Bosch's lawyer's investigator is the guy who played Gerry Bertier in Remember The Titans.

....and Opie on Sons of Anarchy and the deaf guy in Saving Private Ryan. Titus Welliver played an IRA dude on SAMCRO so I assume Titus got Ryan Hurst the gig on Bosch.

In this case, it is more "that was THE day" as opposed to those were the days.

The 1975 Big Game was unique, because the winner would go to the Rose Bowl IF SC beat or tied UCLA the following Friday. With two outstanding teams, all Cal fans and all LSJU fans wanted wanted to show up to Stanford Stadium. If there was anybody who had tickets and was unable to attend, there was no difficulty in finding someone to take the tickets. So the game was both sold out AND virtually no no-shows.

I strongly suspect that more people got in that should have gotten in. Both student sections were bursting at the seams, people sitting in the aisles because there wasn't room to squeeze everybody in.

It was only the second of my 45 consecutive Big Games. I never would have guessed that day that 43 1/2 years later, there wouldn't have been another Big Game like it, not another where the stadium was overly stuffed like it was that day, and not another one where Cal played as well as it did that day against a really good LSJU team.

Yeah, that was the day.

My younger brother and I considered driving to Palo Alto from Napa to try and buy scalped tickets. No TV for that game and everyone wanted to see it. We didn't have the funds, the moxy or the knowledge to take that chance.

Great team to be on, but not a great team to show off one's punting ability.
