Go Bears!
Bears Go Back to Hawaii for Commitment from DT McKenzie
For the second time this week, the Bears reeled in a nice commitment from the islands with a verbal from 6-2/280 St. Louis Honolulu DT Stanley McKenzie this morning, just a day after the commitment of Mililani linebacker Muelu Iosefa.
The Bears were looking to add depth up the middle and the aggressive and agile McKenzie was just what the doctor ordered for the Bears’ D.
McKenzie announced his commitment this morning on Twitter, saying:
“As a student athlete, I’ve been so fortunate to be surrounded with the most amazing teachers and coaches, who have also been great mentors to me and have impacted my life in ways that you can’t even imagine. Plese know that my heart is filled with so much gratitude.
“Thank you to all the coaches who took their time to recruit me. Please know that your time and efforts into recruiting me is truly appreciated.
“And last but not least, to my brothers at the Lou, always remember that the brotherhood lasts forever! One love always.
“With that being said, I am fully committed to the University of Cal-Berkeley! Go Bears!”
In a stellar junior season, McKenzie helped lead St Louis to the #1 ranking in the state and #7 overall in the nation.
McKenzie was the fourth defensive commitment for the Bears, joining LB Muela Iosefa, LB Andy Alfieri and cornerback Isaiah Young and the ninth overall commitment for the Bears.
The Bears beat out Oregon, Oregon State, Arizona, Nebraska and more for McKenzie’s services.
