Marcel Dancy became a certified youth football coach in 2018 and volunteers for the Oakland Dynamites youth football and cheer program in his hometown community of East Oakland. The non-profit organization aims to provide youth with a quality program committed to mentoring them with life skills through the fundamentals of football, cheer, sportsmanship, health and wellness, and building of team character in an effort to further their development as future leaders of the community.

Established in 1992, the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® continues to be one of the most coveted community service awards in college football. From the 137 nominees, the final roster of 23 awards recipients will be announced in September, bringing together 11 players from the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision, 11 players from the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision, Divisions II, III and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), and one honorary head coach. The final roster of 22 award recipients will be unveiled in September. To be considered for a spot on the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team®, each student-athlete must be actively involved with a charitable organization or service group while maintaining a strong academic standing.

The final 22-member team and honorary coach is selected by a voting panel consisting of former Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® members and prominent media members who look for both their dedication to giving back and the embodiment of true leadership on and off the football field.

After the final team members are announced on Sept. 12, 2019, fans can vote for this year's Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® captain through the official page on ESPN.com. Fans are also encouraged to join in the conversation by searching and using the #GoodWorksTeam hashtag on their social media channels throughout the season.

Cal has had a tremendous amount of success in placing student-athletes on the prestigious team in the past with three selections in the past six years in Nick Forbes (2013), Jeffrey Coprich (2014) and Patrick Laird (2018).

Below are notes on Dancy with an extended bio available by clicking on his name.

Geez I remember the Dynamite team from very early Pop Warner days.

This is a great story, and is the kind of story that needs more promotion!

I know that this website focuses on Cal Football. And discusses the chances of success on the football field.

But this article focuses on Life.
College is supposed to prepare students to be successful in Life. (I am not equating success with just making money; there is much more in Life than making money). Success in football is just the cherry on top of the cake.
Dancy has taken one GIANT step toward becoming a success in Life.
