As our younger son just said pretty cool that we now have a tradition of rushing to Stanford's field after big game! And the Stanford fans just sit there and take it.

Have we ever had another teams fans rush our field after the game?

I'm a big fan of field rushing. Think it's one of the best traditions in sports. This was the greatest Field Rush I've ever been part of. The cathartic level of joy from Cal fans was off the charts. After 10 long years in the wilderness the Axe is finally coming home. Go Bears!!!

Agree. Rushing the field is a memorable event for the students on the field. It also made an impression on many players who were quoted. It cements a bond between the students, the players and the school.
Win-win-win.
If there is any danger to anyone that can be addressed to minimize the risk.
By the time I got down on the field. The fans were not "rushing" they were milling around high-fiving the players

That is so incredible! Wish I could've been there. At least we got to view the win with a couple of hundred diehard Cal fans and Mike Mohamed. That was so much fun.
what! What a way to tie the ends together!

Anyway: rushing the field is what makes college sports great. Take that away and I think they should take away the sports all together. What's the point if you aren't PART OF THE GAME. Spectators are for pro games. We participate and create the traditions of our schools. We, especially the current students, belong on that field after this type of win as much as the students who played. Unless it's just a business. And then can we stop pretending these guys are students of our schools and stop pretending to send them to class and stop associating the team with the school? Cal band can go play for the Warriors or A's maybe. RC can go do a showdown over the Stanley Cup. Etc.

People who want the people kept separated from the game after bit wins or upsets don't like college football, IMO.

I don't like pro sports because there is zero connection with the fans (outside of Green Bay).
Nailed it.

I'll also say the crush in the center of that mosh pit was unlike anything I've ever experienced. I mean people were just so extraordinarily joyful. Tons of random strangers hugging each other and chanting "Bear Territory". It was also pretty hot (entire game was pretty toasty toasty in the stands and the crush of 5,000 Cal fans at midfield didn't make it better).

I will now (grudgingly) give credit to Stanford for not rushing us off the field. We were out there for a loooong time. I'm that way they handled this much better than our own security at Cal has handled our recent rushes.

Stanford fans don't rush the field. We do, but it has been a long time since we won there so they didn't know what to do. When we win there two years from now they will probably be prepared (like they used to be) with riot gear, tear gas and rubber bullets.

One of the most fun and memorable times is rushing the field or court

I think the players love it too

The biggest danger is the 'rush' especially if people have to jump over walls or something

Pre-remodel the drop from the wall to the field wasn't easy. Now it's to far and is very dangerous

I think a managed 'rush' can be accomplished with some planning and trained staff as the risk is the initial storm the field, and it's not good to mix crazy fans with the losing team's players

Furd tried it (forgot what year) and they stopped in their tracks once they saw the entire cal student section rushing back at them. That was when we tore the tree to pieces. That was fun.

We don't need no damn riot police. We can protect our own field. Thanks

And if you plan on rushing the field next time, remember to zip up your orange jumpsuit. Was that a Cal fan or someone escaping from prison? see video at 0:04.

LOL. i know that kid. He's actually a Cal senior and pretty active on campus. That was indeed a prison jumpsuit. You couldn't see it, but the back said "Stanford Admissions Officer." Awesome.

That guy was rad

Added bonus. Here's the band playing Take on Me post game. In watching the video I realized jumpsuit guy got in some sweet dance moves. He shows up around the 49 second mark.
