I did not, and find it surprising (and disconcerting). Most lawyers I know are fully aware how to spell the word "Fight."

Must be a Furd thing. Have you ever read wifeisafurd? I kid, I kid. Kind of.
Its (sic) a lawyer thing.

I had no idea the Pac-12 Championship was THAT big a deal.

Heby pushing Utah (if they win) could get a lot of Midwest votes against the loser (likely Georgia) of the SEC championship for the playoffs. Good news for the Pac for a change. INO Herby in the best college national analyst and he has a lot of sway with both fans and football insiders.
The only votes that matter are those cast by the 15 committee members. They are not swayed by what analysts say. They are swayed by the cold, hard facts (in this case, Utah has played at a high level more consistently than OK. If GA loses, they are cooked because they will have two losses, there is no question about that).

I'm also a Petros fan but he seemed toned down this year. Maybe Vereen's presence threw him off, but I don't recall a single Top Dog shoutout.
I've become a Petros fan over the last couple years. When I first heard him, he was a little too over-the-top. The last couple years I think he's dialed it in pretty well: still loud and fun, but with plenty of substance as well.

Very happy, because it seems to me that things usually go the other direction: announcer X is known for being loud or rowdy or flamboyant, and over the years accentuates all of that to the detriment of actually talking about anything of substance.

I gotta get one of these hats to wear to Cal games.

Both teams' fans will travel well.
Don't think so... Not a single Marriottt or Hilton is sold out for Thursday or Friday night in Santa Clara / San Jose / San Francisco. And rates are incredibly low for Friday night (in fairness, rates are always significantly cheaper on weekends than weekdays in this area).

Better proxy for demand would be the prices of the Hilton and Hyatt on Tasman Dr next to the stadium. Both are ~$300 and not sold out.

Hilton is sold out for the Niners game on 12/15 for comparison.

But yeah, it's no super bowl.

P12 title game attendance (@ Levis):

2014: 45.6k, Az v Ore (Friday night, Oregon to CFB playoff)
2015: 58.5k, USC v Furd (Saturday night)
2016: 47.1k, CU v UW (Friday night, UW to CFB playoff)
2017: 48.0k, Furd v USC (Friday night)
2018: 35.1k, UW vs Utah (Friday night)

Would guess this barely cracks 40k. If it were a Saturday, I'd say 50k+.

38.5k for 2019.

9k fewer fans than when UW, with a CFB playoff spot on the line, played CU on a Friday.

This game needs to be played on the home field of the higher ranked team. The Pac-12 simply doesn't have the kinds of traveling fan bases to support a centralized game.

Someone else mentioned that to me. Seems like a no brainer.

I suspect attendance would be similarly bad for a Saturday game. Maybe a bit better.

It's for TV. With 4 P5 CCGs on Saturday, the Pac doesn't want to be relegated to an 8pm PST start.

Petros is incredible. One of USCs 3 quality outputs (along with Neil Armstrong and will Ferrell)

Petros' brush with Cal gave him his good qualities.

Yep. That combined with the short history of having a title game at all, which still seems weird to me.

There's not a lot of point traveling to the game and then traveling again to the bowl game in less than a month, IMO. I might have done it as a student, but life is too busy now to travel twice. I'd rather see the bowl game.

I mean, that really is the point, isn't it? Why would you spend $500-$1000 and two days of your time to see our ****ty CCG in scenic Santa Clara (/sarc), when you could use the cash and vacay days for a really nice time at the bowl game?
Patience is a virtue, but I’m not into virtue signaling these days.
