What a great way to end the season. Would you believe that I didn't have tickets until 6:40AM, 5 minutes before leaving for the airport yesterday because of a major StubHub screwup? More on that in a separate later post.

Maybe list format is the best way to go:
1) I can see why Levi's Stadium gets no love. It looks, shall we say, unfinished? I can see where "erector set" may come to mind. In many areas, it seems that cost was a major consideration/obstacle. However, they have the best food choices I have ever seen at a stadium of any kind!
2) I was in section C214 and it got much warmer than I expected, especially because we were quite cold walking into the stadium. I'm not sure I'd want to sit there in September.
3) Crowd was 34k plus. I'd say that's acceptable, but boy do Cal fans take their time getting into the game. How do you spell comatose? I was really standing out in my section with the cheering. How many beers does it take for a typiCal fan to put his/her hands together?
4) Illini fulfilled that big, bold expectation of a Big Ten band.
5) I'm glad orange isn't our color.
6) I thought the PA announcer was excellent. Just enough information and put forward expertly.
7) Good audio from PA and the refs' mics.
8) Ground crew seemed overmatched trying to get the teams names onto the end zone grass.
9) So much Cal love at SJC after the game! Southwest employee twice got on the terminal mic and congratulated Cal! I started clapping and my wife panicked because it sounded too much like gunfire (she's paranoid).
10) In the security line after the game, saw lots of players. Mike Safell was very gracious. Remigio and Garbers were both on my flight, along with many cheerleaders and band members.
11) Got a "Go Bears" from the flight attendant over the PA during the flight home. I hassled another flight attendant for wearing a Crimson Tide lanyard when this was a "Cal flight." She replied, "No pretzels for you"!

Does this mean you actually saw them trying to do that at the last minute? Based on how it looked, it wouldn't surprise me.

And that's great that there was so much love for Cal at the airport, because you'd figure there'd be way more Illinois people than Cal people there, since their fans mostly come from elsewhere and our fans mostly come from nearby.

Given that the stadium cost $1.3 billion, I don't think any corners were cut.

I can't recall the specifics, but there was a funny moment by the PA announcer on a play where I think it was Brown, Jr on a short run where he was finally contained but pulling a mosh pit of Illini players as they were trying to bring him down, and the PA guy said "Brown, Jr tackled by.... everyone!"

What about Coach Lovie's beard?

Initially, they made a big mistake re: turf vs grass.

Sun shelter is still an issue in the afternoon.

I think people were long term mad at ownership for moving out of SF.

Yeah - that was funny. Third quarter I think. The Illini fans were loud - they showed well. I was in section 138 on the shady side and it was pretty chilly. Given all I have heard about the stadium I was expecting to be disappointed by it, but I wasn't. It is not an aesthetically pleasing structure from outside, but was fine and functional inside. I must say, those upper seating areas looked crazy vertical. Not sure I'd want to sit up there.

And for the wine drinkers out there, they had some really nice wines. You could get a full 6+ ounce pour of this for $17 (so basically $68 per bottle).

Given that this retails for $60 a bottle I was surprised to see that.

One of my fond Cal-related memories is flying home from the Vegas Bowl and someone started singing the Drinking Song. Soon, at least half of the passengers joined in. It was...glorious. And we were victorious.

My first (and probably last) game at Levi's. I sat in section 123 and I have to say the sight lines were fantastic. I think this stadium was originally maligned because when it opened the 49ers were so bad.

Again, it appeared that inside you have a good view anywhere in the first 2 levels. That third level looked every bit as high as Mt. Davis so you wouldn't find me up there

Food wise I had a Nathan's kraut dog for $8 that absolutely sucked. Small, no flavor, top dog puts it to shame. Also it bugged me that they did not sell a small soda. I mean $9 for a soft drink? Come on.

Also on entering by car nowhere on the street did I see a sign that simply said "Red Lot." And the parking folks were really clueless.

Still watching the game inside was a pleasure. And the Bears had a very entertaining win! Overall a real good experience.

I sat in Club Level with those cushy leather seats, tight space but comfortable, lots of beer and food available, not cheap but good amenities. The stadium is not super sexy and has a horrible location but is a good venue.

Was on the same flight. We were in row 3 on the left. Coach White was on the flight with his wife as well. We have been on so many flights together that the wives don't want us to talk football too much as we ignore them. He was happy to be on the field he told me. He is a Wilcox fan because he likes a good defense.

SJC was full of Cal people. Never seen that many at any airport ever. I think there were 3 or 4 airplanes heading to Long Beach and John Wayne Airports within 1 hour of each other.

It was a good day indeed!

It was my first time at Levi's and I was very impressed. I loved the wide concourses and huge bathrooms. There were plenty of food and drink options and pretty efficient service. I also thought the sound and video screens were excellent. It was very hot where I was sitting in section 118. I had to strip down to my t-shirt until the sun finally went behind the stands in the 4th quarter. And this was on Dec 30th. I can't imagine what it is like on a warm day in Sep or Oct.

Levi is not the classic bowl and is asymmetrical

Therefore people don't like it from their first sight

However from a game viewing point of view I think it's pretty good (although not speaking for the upper deck which is bad in every stadium including the new Warriors Chase Center.

Levi has good sight lines, video boards and amenities.

One thing that struck me was the acoustics and sound system

I think the point is, for $1.3b, it looks unfinished, at least from the outside. And that should not be surprising given the high cost of everything in CA, particularly labor. For comparison, US Bank Stadium in Mnpls only cost $1b and it has walls all the way to the ground and a roof, along with a/c.

Yeah, the Niner fans all complain about the sun in the Fall.

Did you go to Big Game this year? On the sunny side, the sun/heat was something else! I'm used to games like that at Cal in September, but this was Nov. 23rd!

I really like Levi's. I went to the game yesterday, but I'm also a 49er season ticket holder. Way better than Candlestick. Yea, it's not an attractive building from the outside. For a great looking stadium, I go to Cal's Memorial. But once you're on the inside, who cares. Wide concourse, lots of places to eat, big and plentiful bathrooms, good sight lines. You could miss half a quarter getting a beer or going to the bathroom at Candlestick...my wife once missed a whole quarter! I've never missed more than 3 plays at a Niner game (timing my run with a time out). The food prices are a rip off, but consistent with most pro stadiums. The best part is getting there. I live in Livermore, and Candlestick was a nightmare getting to. Now I drive to one of the free VTA parking lots along 680 or 880 (or the Great Mall), and take the light rail right to the stadium. Usually, VTA is $5, yesterday free. Can't beat it. 1 hour door to door, Candlestick used to take me more than twice that. BTW, the VTA light rail really has it together. Nice trains, good service, never had an incident or failure. Too bad Muni and Bart aren't run so well.
I thought the crowd was great, and the Bears even better. But the number of Illini fans also impressed.
Fantastic day! Go Bears!

The Inglewood Stadium includes the NFL television studio and quite a bit of entertainment stuff not associated with the football aspects of the project. In other words, it is really an apples/oranges situation.

The worst of all built recently? That's pretty subjective but I guess you've been to all of them. This was the second time I've been at the stadium, the first being when Cal played Oregon in 2014. That time we were way up in the East upper deck and even then I didn't think the viewing was that bad. Yesterday we were in Sec. 120 on the 10 yard line row 15 and I thought the seats were pretty good. I don't know why people rag on the stadium. Frustrated Raider fans maybe? Maybe it's not as fancy as other new stadiums but it is perfectly fine, although as a 49er fan I'm biased. It's very open and you can see the structure. So what? I hope people aren't nostalgic for Candlestick and the cramped concourses and tiny bathrooms and lousy access. The last time I was there was for the Paul McCartney concert in 2014 and the traffic was so bad it took people living 5 miles away two hours to get in, and some didn't get in at all. We parked at the Great Mall in Milpitas and took the light rail. Free parking and a 15 minute ride. Could not have been easier. And I had a great hamburger for lunch, light years better than the stale mess at CMS. Now, I can see how the east side fans, like where we sit, would roast on hot days. Not sure what they can do about that.

Not much because of the stadium's proximity to SJC. The idea of erecting an overhang (similar to the original Colosseum in Rome) was nixed because it would interfere with flights coming and going.

The laughable part of the criticism is once SF started playing well, people stopped b*tching. It isn't the stadium, it is the occupant's ability to entertain....

Huge screens at either end of the stadium made it easy reading and watching. The most fun was the Titanic.cam. Had never seen anything like that before and many in the stands were ready to pose. 1) "It is not an aesthetically pleasing structure from outside, but was fine and functional inside."
That's pretty much my take. Ugly outside in a crappy location, but great sight lines, but I was lower bowl. Memorial has some pretty decent sight lines, as well. Those upper deck seats looked like Everest.
2) Ok, the ladies were probably happy, but the line for the men's restroom where I was seated was consistently much longer than the women's (It's not supposed to be that way!). And the entrance to the bathrooms was pretty inefficient - one little swinging door. It made me appreciate the bathrooms on the west side of Memorial - they have two entrances/exits that are wider and have no door - much quicker moving people through.
3) The tawdry professional feel of the stadium made me miss Memorial's college atmosphere. Thank goodness for the bands - they increased my enjoyment significantly.
4) Stupid Plinko games.
5) Did anyone notice the rancid stank of sausage grease throughout the stadium (maybe that was Jed York)?

At halftime I went up to the bathroom right at my section (120) and the line to the men's room was out the door. So, I went down the concourse to the right for a section or two and found a well-marked men's room with virtually no one in it. You just need to explore in these situations.

Got a "Go Bears" from the flight attendant over the PA during the flight home. I hassled another flight attendant for wearing a Crimson Tide lanyard when this was a "Cal flight." She replied, "No pretzels for you"!
It's all right. Pretzels make me thirsty. I'd have preferred soup.

The first time I was there was for the Cal-Oregon "home" game on a non-holiday Friday night. Traffic was horrific. Cal season ticket holders like myself were relegated by the Niners management to that 3rd deck in the sky. It was freezing. The lower levels were filled with loud drunk Duck fans, including their supposedly outlawed duck call noise makers. Combined with PAC-12 refs under league office HQs orders doing everything they could to help the Ducks get to the National Championship game made for a total screw for Cal fans.

Yeah, the Niner fans all complain about the sun in the Fall.

Did you go to Big Game this year? On the sunny side, the sun/heat was something else! I'm used to games like that at Cal in September, but this was Nov. 23rd!

Yeah. I got a little sunburned sitting in the upper deck at the big game. Totally worth it, though.

One of the issues with Levi's is they didn't redesign the stadium for that site. They just took the design from when they were planning to build at the old candlestick site. So it was a slightly older design that lacks a little character some of the newer stadiums have.

My two cents. It was chaos, and a bad experience at the Oregon game. No one knew where anything was, food was cold, mob scenes as the crowds were pushed into certain areas, on and on. Also it seemed like planes were landing on you. This time:

1) great traffic control
2) people knew where we had to go and how to get us there
3) very good site lines, good and clear announcer, and very few annoying ads
4) food choices are great now
5) wide pedestrian concourses which handled crowds nicely
6) much better game for Cal
7) nice venue for Cal tailgate
8).other that the planned fly over, no plane noise

Levi's isn't my favorite venue, but I would gladly see another game there. Really improved

I was excited to check out the BNY Mellon club (cause there's no way I'd be able to get in there for a niners game) but they closed the club for the redbox game.

Not sure why I paid a premium for the so called "vip" seats since none of the normal perks came along with it. (Food, field access, club access).

Cal ATO should've been more clear about what was not included for the "VIP" seats.

Agreed. Levi's sucks. The end zones were pathetic. Left blue lot at 12:30 and missed kickoff - like 2 gates open and lots of body cavity searches. Traffic was fortuitously light. Tailgating was fun but was assigned a numbered stall even though there were no numbers. Should have a train run here. Constant SJ flyovers. I liked the U2 flyover but it seemed low budget.
