This whole pandemic and the possibility that the 2020 season may be cancelled has convinced me that God is punishing Cal.

I think we can all agree that Cal will field its best team in ages in 2020. Good enough to challenge for the Rose Bowl spot. But none of this will happen if 2020 is cancelled. It looks like a real possibility. We've been denied by God again.

History has been littered with examples of God punishing Cal football:
*2004 when God chose the state of Texas to get the Rose Bowl spot, thereby denying Cal.
*the year when God caused DeSean Jackson to trip over a blade of grass on his way to the end zone costing us another Rose Bowl
*sonny Dykes And Tom Holmoe
*aaron Rodgers was the best qb in football when he believed in God, but then became an atheist and promptly became a below average game manager.

He has been making us wander the desert for +60 years, the same way he made the Israelites wander the desert.

The question is: why is God punishing Cal?
I had the same thoughts.

My only consolation is knowing that Cal wasn't going to the Rose Bowl this year anyways even if it won the Pac-12.

Cal is an "it" to you?

Yes, that was Hawkins. Desean had a TD called back when he was ruled to have stepped out of bounds. We had an interception in the end zone called back when it was ruled PI. Mostly it was not God, but the Pac-12 refs, though Longshore's 47% completion percentage and 3 INTs didn't help. Plus ridiculous playcalling in the red zone when you have Marshawn Lynch and a great OL....
After Hawkins tripped and was down at the 1, we ran Lynch twice. He lost a yard each time. You wanted to run him again, on 3rd and goal at the 3?

Running out of the shotgun spread, so yes, I meant "play design." If we went jumbo, two tight ends and a fullback with Longshore under center, no way Marshawn doesn't get 1 yard in four tries. One of the reasons Tedford fired Dunbar I'm sure, causing us to go "multiple."

God said to Abraham, "Kill me a son."
Abe said, "Man, you must be putting me on."
God said, "No."
Abe said, "What?"
God said, "You can do what you want, Abe, but the next time you see me coming you better run."

Desean actually had a toe touch the sideline in Arizona.

And then Longshore threw an interception.

I was at that game in Tuscon (that was the season that I attended 11 of the 12 Cal games). We had every every reason to win that game. I think that was the game that Hawkins tripled over a blade of grass while going to the end zone with no one around (right in front of me) AND Jackson was called out of bounds on a return for a TD (opposite sideline) when all the replayed clearly showed that he was in bounds (that was before the replays were allowed in college football). And, then at the end of the game, U of A staged a unlikely cone-back aided by crowd noise and refs. It was a depressing flight back that night. Oh, well, life goes on!

Go Bears!

Sadly, your memory fails you here, in two ways. First, it was not a return, but a reception. I believe it was a deep out. He caught the pass along the sideline, stopped at the sideline and headed up field. Second, it actually the first year replay was allowed in college football, and it worked against us. The call on the field was a TD, but the replays shows that by the very thinnest of margins, his toe was out before he headed up field for the endzone.

If you take a step where your heel hits inbounds and then as you follow through on the step your forefoot hits the out of bounds line, that's still considered out right?

Hanky, God doesn't hate Cal. God was waiting for Cal to hire Justin Wilcox as head coach. It's done and now it is only a matter of time before we win the Pac12 championship. The virus is worldwide indicating it is not specifically aimed at Berkeley.

What will happen to the playoff/bowl rotation? What if this is actually God blessing Cal? We were going to win the Pac-12 in a year the pac-12 champ would not go to the Rose Bowl. So He/She canceled the entire season, will skip this year's playoff rotation and 2022 will remain as it was originally scheduled, so next season when we win, we will go to the Rose Bowl. Thy will be done.

If you dwell on losses, you are a loser. Cal stops Utah at the one; Fredricksen kicks a field goal to beat SUC; Garbers makes Big Game history by scoring with one minute left in the game. There are others, far too numerous to mention.
Morikawa wins PGA first time out with dramatic drive and eagle.

The idea that God would even take the time to punish a school's football teams and fans of those teams, engaging in an activity so trivial in the grand scheme of things, is blasphemy, pure and simple.
So true. What God is REALLY concerned with is making sure no man touches another man's pee pee.

God doesn't hate Cal. He is evening things up after The Play. Remember headline on the day after The Play God is a Golden Bear.

Well He has to even things out. Forty years of bad luck should be just about right to make up for that improbable event.
