Watching Cal football and expecting a different result.....
If there is any game to be excused/explained away, it's this one. I don't fault the players. We're in a pandemic and this kind of thing is going to happen.heartofthebear said:
I'm going to reserve judgement until Garbers is allowed to sleep before a game and the coaches can get a full week of prep. It's not an excuse for how they played, but, at the same time. I'm not using this game as a model from which to predict the future.

That said, Musgrave's play calling wasn't too strong.
The worst Wilcox/Musgrave sequence today was:
4th and 3 down three scores (27-10), could have kicked a field goal at like the UCLA 25, but instead burned a TO for the must have play of the game. Out of that TO we call a low % sideline timing throw (long timing patterns haven't worked all game) to turn the ball over on downs. Had we gotten a first down and continued for a TD that possession it's still a game at 27-17.

Let's count up the road blocks for the Bears playing today??. No, I'd rather not - too many. They haven't even had an 11 on 11 scrimmage in two weeks, and the DL couldn't be on the team until 12:01 this morning. What kind of new offensive playbook did you expect? Execution wasn't the only factor here. The Bears were totally unprepared and in the case of the Bruins, already had played a game and even held a practice on Saturday while the Bears were navigating the flight and check in to hotel. Imagine if we DIDN'T play today and had to wait another week of no competition before traveling to Corvallis? I was only disappointed in what was perceived as a "lack of effort" or focus but I don't think that was a result of not wanting to win.
We would have beaten De La Salle HS because they don't practice either. Look football is about practice and reps. Having a d-line in quarantine for two weeks means we didn't have a real practice for two weeks. Let's see how we do after a full week of practice without a unit missing. If we continue to struggle badly, no more excuses.Trumpanzee said:KoreAmBear said:If there is any game to be excused/explained away, it's this one. I don't fault the players. I believe UCLA is dealing with same Pandemic as the Bears......no excuses for passes that were thrown into the ground, over thrown. Bottom line we couldn't have beat De LaSalle today.....
Yes the team did not show up but to say they would not have beaten De LaSalle today is a stupid statement.Trumpanzee said:KoreAmBear said:If there is any game to be excused/explained away, it's this one.
