Watching the game.

I saw three hours of Cal vs. UCLA. One and one-half hours of football and one and one-and one-half hours of Fox commercials and promotions. The announcers were terrible, particularly, Aaron Goldsmith. I'll give Brady Quinn a pass.

I agree with pretty much everything except giving Brady Quinn a pass.

I've noticed the number and length of commercials and promotions before on both college and NFL broadcasts. It's all Fox. I hate Murdoch.

IMO college football announcers (especially the color analysts) are almost uniformly terrible, with rare exceptions (Herbstreit).

If you gave brady quinn a pass, would he complete it?

With so many televised games now, that's why you end up with announcers like Beth "Voice like Nails on Chalkboard" Mowins, Joe "Every Play Elicits Ej@ctulatory Levels of Excitement" Tessitore, and Brady "Glory Days" Quinn.

Like others, I miss hearing the voice of Keith Jackson, which meant it was a truly big game. Or even Dan Fouts and Bob Griese, both of whom were good. Long gone are the ex-coach types like Frank Broyles or Ara Parseghian who brought true depth and insight into their color commentary.

Seems like most of the former coaches now sit in the studio, where we get to watch them exchange witty repartee with such luminaries of our time like Mark Sanchez and Reggie Bush.

Fouts just left CBS so maybe he could return to the college game (though IMO only as a color analyst and not a play-by-play man, as he was mediocre at the latter).

Part of the issue with college football announcing is that the real money is in the NFL. I'm sure Tony Romo would also do a great job calling college games, but why would he want to do that? I remember when Charles Davis used to do a lot of college games (including some for Cal on TBS during the Tedford years), and I always thought he was a really good, sharp color analyst who was a cut above most of the dross. Where is he now? Doing NFL games, of course. Being good meant he got promoted.
