I think it's very important for a team success to have at least one dominant player. For Cal that is Bradley. It's silly to say that we are possibly better without him. We are not.

It's up to the coach to design and coach the offense to take advantage of your dominant player. Monty was the absolute master of doing that. Think of all the shots he got for Crabbe and Jorge?

It's been a while, but I don't remember Jorge being that much of an offensive threat.

He wasn't. Kind of a Draymond Green, but at the guard position.

Still my favorite Cal basketball player ever though - such heart.

Imagine the defense with Kidd and Gutierrez on the same team.

I'm going to duck and cover after saying this: Jorge was a great Bear and a defensive elite...BUT...once he earned his stripes with the refs, if he had been a player on another team guarding a Cal player, we would have been screaming bloody murder.

has any player ever won both Pac12 POY and Pac12 Defensive POY in the same year?

Jorge did. I don't remember any other player doing so

what makes this award so meaningful, is the vote is from the conference coaches

I hope you all didn't take my comments to mean I didn't value or appreciate Jorge. He was easily one of my favorite Cal players. I love hardnosed defensive players who get in the other team's best players' space and heads. Jorge was one of the best to do that in a Cal uniform (at least that I've seen). I had hoped he'd make his way onto a NBA squad as an end of bench player and work his way into being a rotation player. I figured that with his defense, he had a chance if he could work on becoming a better shooter (especially from deep). I'm still holding out hope he'll get a chance to prove himself in the NBA.
