Turned the ball over too much. Shot poorly (under 40%). Outrebounding them was not enough to offset that. Being objective, we didn't deserve to win the game. We really only played well the last few minutes of the first half.

Celestine deserves more minutes. Betley and Hyder less.

We didn't go to Kelly enough

He was a monster today

ASU shot 50% despite making just 3 of 14 threes. That doesn't make our defense look very good.

A different Anticevich from last week, unfortunately. Bradley tries to do too much sometimes. A lot of mediocre performances (euphemism) overshadowed Kelly's really good game.

Celestine had some really good minutes today to off-set Hyder's clunker. I thought Hyder would handle ASU's pressure better. But no dice. ASU had a clear game plan to attack Betley every time he was on defense. It worked really well for them.

I liked the doubling Remy at the end of the game. Wish they would've done more of that earlier.

Celestine shows more and more over the last half dozen or so games. Very encouraging.

Hyder continues to underperform expectations. But Brown didn't do particularly well today either (ouch, those shots).

Kelly played well, but for all those calling for going to him more often, you should recognize that few (if any?) of Kelly's points did he create for himself tonight. He got a lot of open finishes created by others tonight (3 by Celestine alone, plus the lob from Bradley, just to name a few), and put-backs off offensive rebounds. He played great and continues to improve after his covid slow start (particularly wrt conditioning), but it's not as though he was a go-to option within the offense tonight. In fact he had an unusual amount of losing control of the ball around the rim tonight.

Last weekend the Bears played well and lost close games to good teams. Tonight the Bears played poorly (and seemed to have unusual bad luck) and lost a close game to a weak team.

I continue to be heartened by the turning of the corner that began, IMO, with the UCLA game (not the Utah game). And now they're working Bradley back into the mix. Celestine is emerging into a budding force. Fox needs to make a decision on PG and put Celestine at 2. I'd love to see Celestine get big minutes now. Bears have the making of a decent lineup and rotation, but PG is the weakness that is holding this team back rn.

Have to say about Celestine that it has been really fun to see his progression over that past half dozen games or so. Even in those first games, where he wasn't doing a whole lot and not getting much playing time, you could still see he brought a notable confidence to the court. Then it started with some pretty (and confident) 3's. Then he kept showing new things each time, including repeatedly dropping beautiful pocket passes tonight. It's been fun to watch and exciting to project. I think it's time to give JC a start at 2.
Conversely, it's been tough to watch Bowser disappear from the rotation.
I predict Bears beat wildcats Saturday.

I believe the difference between Celestine and Bowser is that Celestine has a upperclassman type physique whereas Bowser still has a high school body. A couple of times Bowser flew in the lane out of control, including the time he landed hard with a concussion. A year or two in the weight room will get him ready for prime time. He has good athleticism and explosion just needs to fill out. The game wasn't too fast for Celestine today even though ASU was playing really aggressive D. On the other hand, I think the aggressiveness and fast hands of ASU bothered Grant a lot. Oh well, we're not winning games, but I have to believe we will be a tough out the rest of the way and especially at the Pac-12 tournament.

Yes, agree about Bowser. Still, he showed some good skills and aggressiveness. Would be nice to see him getting *some* minutes. But it's hard with a 12-man rotation which I think Fox is trying to pare down now that MB and GA are both healthy again and it's getting later into the season.

Another huge difference between Celestine and Bowser is that Celestine has a pretty good outside shot and is a good passer. It might be a bit much to say he's becoming a "force" though, imo, but he's gonna be gettin' some of the minutes that Betley had.

Unless Bowser can develop an outside shot, I'm having a hard time seeing him as anything but a defensive stopper.

This is what happens as a team becomes competitive!

A "budding" force. If he keeps playing and developing rapidly as he has over the past half dozen games, he'll soon be starting at the 2, I could see him being a real weapon. I was impressed enough with the confidence and perimeter shooting he was showing. But those repeated drives and pocket passes showed a completely new and very impressive side to his game. Makes me think we maybe haven't yet seen the ceiling to his game yet.

I hope not. He has played less than 100 minutes in college.
