Stanford 69
cal 66
cal fights hard..In thge end, the most talented team wins. This is impressive because Stanford is a talented team and both teams were rested.

Stanford is dealing with injuries, but that would be another good loss. It would point to Cal being "competitive" with the PAC-12's 6th place team.

Not good.

Oregon State beat UW by 20, so that is our best chance for another W and would elevate us from the cellar.

IMHO we could really use Paris Austin (Feb 2020 version).

The Brown-Hyder combo at PG is going to have to give us a lot more next season, if we are to improve.

Same with the interior players.

I believe that Roberson will be the starting point guard by the start of the conference season. He can play the 1 or the 2 and he is a leader who can actually make free throws. He was the NCAL player of the year as a Junior and I expect that he is going to surprise some of the folks on this board with how good a player he is going to be. We really missed Paris this season, especially his free throw shooting in close games. I believe that Roberson will give us that and his ability to penetrate will help set up our shooters. I am anxious to see him play with the other two recruits as well as Bradley, Kelly, and Celestine. Hopefully, Brown will put in the time needed in the off season to become a decent free throw shooter as well.

I hadn't heard that Roberson is projected as a point guard. Not saying he isn't, or can't be, but where are you hearing this?

He played the point at Bishop O'Dowd. I saw a couple of their games with him at the point.

I also hope he is right. It is a near-perfect setup. Stanford will be overconfident. How many of your predictions have been right?

Any insight or theory why Cal and the recruiting services are not even referring to him as a "combo guard" much less a point? It is not like he plays for an obscure program. I do like the idea, if he is as good a point as you say it would be a major coup.

Another site is predicting Cal 50. Stanford 75, if we play like last time. Hint to Htp1. Guy who used to sit next to you in Haas , behind me.

Roberson is a 2 definitely not a point - the games he played at point were when the regular point was out. Zero chance he plays point over Brown/Hyder next season (baring injuries). Roberson is a very good recruit and athletic. Needs to develop a more consistent shot, but will upgrade the roster's lack of athleticism. Should be a contributor by his sophomore season. The games I saw him live, demonstrated his quickness, explosiveness and willingness to be aggressive. Hopefully he and Bowser can convince their post player to choose Cal - He is a stud and mature physically as a sophmore.

is he better then Celestine?

Celestine is also a 2 guard, but he has a poise about him, and has good size

Thanks for clarifying. I must have been at two of the only games he played the point and I was really impressed. Based on what I saw tonight and what would have probably been the case as you pointed out, Brown and Hyder should be the point guards next year. It was really great seeing Brown go 5 for 6 at the free throw line tonight and to see Brown and Hyder play defense against Stanford in the last part of the game tonight. Lastly, I hope that Celestine get more playing time in the future. He seems to be doing a lot of little things well when he is in the game. Hope that we can win at least one more game before the tournament.

Right now Celestine is a bit tougher, stronger and physically more mature. However Roberson is more athletic and hopefully becomes more of an contributor over his career at Cal.
